Review R3: The Good, Bad and Ugly vs. North Melbourne

I know, I know, Vic media and all that... but I decided to stick on some of the footy shows tonight and watched On The Couch, AFL 360 and AFL Tonight. Not a single one of them even bothered to cover our game at all. AFL Tonight had 30 seconds on us, just Dal Santo saying we are playing attractive footy, but Drew Jones couldn't wait to interrupt him to talk about the Saints instead. On The Couch mentioned Dawson and Hinge as "goods" in their good/bad/ugly segment (strange week to list Dawson, but okay), and AFL 360 briefly discussed Rachele's injury. That's it.

Come on guys, I know we're not in Melbourne and we've been shit for years, but we're second on the ladder, undefeated, averaging 21 goals a game. You could at least do a segment or two?

Literally any media, the first team they talk about is Carlton and what Carlton are going to do. I saw at one point they praised Adelaide's forward line and shoehorned in how Carlton should look at that for McKay and Curnow.

One of the worst games of the year was the Carlton Bulldogs game, it was just a boring long bomb fest for 90 minutes but it had to be analysed at length and what Carlton are doing, how Voss didn't do xy and z.

We felt the same…but it wasn’t just us they ignored. Basically none of the interstate teams got a mention (other than JBs Brisbane). It really is still the VFL. And it’s as if the ‘goods’ were token ‘oh let’s chuck an interstate team in the goods to keep them happy’. It’s utter bullshit. First crack last night gave the best coverage of us I thought.

I don't expect them to say much about us, but surely they could at least mention the game at all.

I don't understand a show whose premise is "we look at all the matches on the weekend" and then they look at like, seven of them and ignore two. Why not just spend 1-2 minutes less on each other match to get them all done.

I think it makes sense to cut games that are boring and have obvious takeaways.

Like cool the Saints beat Richmond, but Richmond are shit and no one cares.

I would have thought there's interesting stuff to discuss from Adelaide vs North

Even to praise North would be good

I loved Footy Classified when it came out because it would devote two minutes to each game - then it slowly got whittled back

Dan Gorringes podcast did the same but now he is looking for a Triple M gig

I no longer participate in either media

I would have actually had a bit of praise for north and said they likely win at least 9 games under Clarkson for first time after that performance

Why are we concerned about the lack of attention we're getting by the same people in the media that we often slate for being overly negative?
Yeah, I would prefer to be under the radar.

Keep talking up the Lions as favourites & flashy Hawks.

We haven't beaten any top teams yet, so we really don't know where we truly stand.

32.48 mark

Who said the AFL media doesn't cover the Crows?

Get the feeling Bucks loves watching Tex... & our tall forward line.

Doesn't understand the Tex haters.

Reckon coaches have a fair idea the damage an opposition player has done or can do.

Funny how Buckley say Curtin takes the second ruck sometimes.
Has anyone seen that?
Haven't seen him, but no reason why he can't around the ground.

Reckon Tex then TT up forward.

I've only seen it once. There was a period in the North game where Thilthorpe rucked up forward in one contest, followed by Walker in the next, then Curtin after that. I remember thinking, kind of confusing for the poor opposition ruck, lol

I went and found it, it was in the first quarter. I had the order slightly wrong, Walker rucks inside the F50 with 12:56 left on the clock, then Thilthorpe rucks around 60m out with 12:43 left on the clock, and Curtin rucks inside the F50 with 12:31 left on the click.

Three different F50(ish) rucks within 25 seconds of play! Also, Thilthorpe rucked inside F50 shortly before all that as well, with 13:10 left on the clock.

In any event, Curtin currently has a career total of 0 hitouts, so obviously not a huge focus for him :p

Yeah you'd be wanting him to steer clear of any ruckwork for another few years

Guessing you can’t see any communication between them?

You see Walker pointing at Curtin saying "you, you" before Curtin rucks, but it's not clear what the context is, whether he's directing him, or just saying "you've got it? All good". Walker was over the boundary line at the time, so possible he was just not back at the stoppage in time and Curtin put his hand up.

Realistically, I just think it was a case that O'Brien was off so Thilthorpe was taking most of the ruckwork, Walker was rucking inside the F50 because that's what he does, and then for some reason Curtin ended up being handed one.

Haven't watched football media since 2012 and don't think I will again.

EDIT: I did watch the David Mackay witch hunt when he broke Hunter Clark's jaw.

I thought Curtin rucked a couple of times vs Essendon. That Keays goal where he sharks the throw in from Sam Draper and runs into the open goal was Curtin rucking the throw in.
