With the majority of commentators former players, (including so many dick heads) how would you feel if some spots were given to ex umpires?

I think it would probably take some of the biased remarks out of the commentary. Maybe even a better idea on disputed decisions. I reckon it would be good.
Would certainly give better insights into contentious decsions.

Considering some of the jibberish that came from KB and comes from Lethal.re: the 'laws' of the game - cant be worse.

The idea has a lot of merit for sure. However I'd like to see less supposed personalities and ex players, and more professional commentators in the mould of Hudson and Whately.

We did have one once, remember Harry Beitzel?

Actually, Bumps, I mentioned him in another thread, and I remember him on 3KZ with Ian Major. I also remember booing him (I'm not a racist) vigorously down at Glenferrie. I still would like to see an umpire or two in amongst the dead heads we have to listen to now.

I can't believe some of the score reviews. We have had goal umpires overruled by boundary umps, even when they have been unsighted. We have goal umpires reverse their original call after questioned by the field umpires. I coild go on, but it would be good to have someone say he/she got that wrong.

Wasn't it Derek Humphery-Smith that was tried and failed because everyone thought he was a pompous jerk that always defended umpires even when they were clearly wrong?

I was going to mention him. He currently does a spot on SEN on a Tuesday evening and that's exactly how he comes across!

Shouldn't be that hard for them to have a former up or someone from that department as a rules specialist in commentary but that would be educating the public and they the public would realise how terrible the commentators are so it won't happen

If you put the AFL lawyers in charge of goal reviews, the marketing team in charge of the tribunal, the umpires in charge of marketing and that six year-old kid from the scoreboard announcements on game day at the MCG in Gil's position, you'd improve things all round. Plus you could let 100 fans loose on the umpires after every game and see who survived. Talk about TV ratings.

You'd get accurate and rigorous score reviews, the tribunal memebrs are making sh!t up anyway, and the umpires are more worried about appearances. Perfect.

So I thought tickets went on sale 2 weeks before, for a game? It seems like all the tickets for Hawks v West Coast have been sold already, or is that just reserved and there will be some GA released closer to the date?

The WA people will be able to confirm but I believe that even WA Hawthorn members have to go in a ballot or some such to get tickets because there is a very small allocation for visiting teams over there. In other words tickets are as scarce as hens teeth so you probably won't be able to buy one.

As an Interstate Gold Member I'm guaranteed a ticket to the game but only one, and I want to go with friends. I just seemed to recall tickets going on sale on the Wednesday two weeks before the game but it seems like even the cheap seats have already been sold so I dunno.

It's a sellout so any eagle members not wanting to go can sell them back to the club and then "eagles in waiting" get first dibs and then anything left get released to the public

Just saw that Spud Frawley is working at the Saints. I could have sworn he was doing work at Hawthorn?
Agreed to work at Hawthorn during pre-season, only to be offered a job at the Saints around the same time
Decided to take the Saints job, and Hawks allowed him to go, or something along those lines
