Debutant
The lack of deals in the first 3 days of trade week has been happening for years.
It is time for the AFL to introduce rules that prevent issues rather than bandaid fixes such as mediators.
Remove the PSD
First 2 days of trade week is allocated to dealing uncontracted players. If deals are not completed in this time, the only option these players have is to nomonate in the National Draft and list their contract terms.
During the National Draft what ever pick a club uses for that uncontracted player, then that pick goes to the club that lost the uncontracted player. Then that club uses that pick for any available footballer.
Example: Ryan O'keefe eneters the National Draft due to a deal not being completed for him in the first 2 days of Trade Week. He enters the ND and Brisbane decide to use pick 7 to secure hime. That pick then goes to Sydney.
Advantages:
Smooth Trade Week
The market for that current year determines the value of a player. (Strong draft later pick, weak draft earlier pick)
Each club get far and reasonable value
Disadvantages:
Player wanting to return home may end up in another state (O'keefe to West Coast). This could be manipulated by the player by saying he want to return home or his terms may only be that he wants a one year contract and would move again at the end of that one years.
In Summary, EVERYONE wins
