Is Paddy Dow generally considered a write off by the majority of fans?

I'm only asking because I feel like he is a bit of a forgotten man, rarely being mentioned. He looks in ripping nick this year. If he gets a full preseason in, he'll be like a new recruit to our midfield. I have definitely not given up on him. In fact, he's one of those ones who - if he gets a bit of consistency in his footy and body - will be the type to lift us to the next level, moreso than the kids who will naturally progress.

Adding two dynamic players like Dow & Carroll, along with Macrae and a continuation of Pou's end of season form and suddenly our midfield looks completely different. Add in Windy and Garcia as those manic defensive minded midfielders to that mix. I am started to realise why Jack Steele had a big smile on his face today.
Not written off, just not as exciting as the others

When you have Pou, Garcia, Wilson tearing up the track as prospective mids, with a top 10 pick in Travaglia and a new recruit in Carroll also just arriving at the club, it's hard for others like Dow, Clark, even Windy at times to get any sort of limelight

Paddy to me isn't a write off but people just don't consider him as much because currently he's lower on the pecking order to quite a few of the 21 and under brigade and he's 25 now himself. When you then consider Steele and Macrae in the mix he comes in as depth until otherwise proven

the run of Darcy Wilson was amazing…the kid won by 100 metres, no exaggeration!
Cudos to Hugo & Mattaes for impressive runs, plus the ‘old boys’ Hill & Steele honourable mentions.
The young draftees looked on, with all 6 in attendance.
Gotta say Max King looks so much stronger as a result of his gym work…he’ll finally be able to mix it physically with the big unit key backs!
Really impressed with Keeler, Phillipou & Garcia today.
Keeler’s a lovely mover & blessed with deft skills for someone 198cm.
Garcia’s run down smother on Sharman was fabulous, getting the deserved acknowledgment from his teammates!!
All sounds great, but excellent about King. He really needs to be the man this year. He’s showed plenty when uninjured, hopefully he’s raring to go.

Also really, really keen to get a look at Keeler. Hopefully a debut this year?

FWIW, I don't see why Wilson can't be as good as last year. Looks like he is getting the AFL body, but I would still have him mainly half forward moving on to a wing with stints in the midfield.
Everyone last preseason were effusive about him but I couldn't see it. He proved me wrong by playing all 23 games and flourished in the back end. Could have had 5 goals against Geelong. Think he will surprise the nay sayers.

Dow looks more composed this pre season and is fully fit. The two sessions I have been too he has looked slick and quick.

Don't know about the majority, but i definitely haven't got him in my mind for our future.

Don't think he's up to it at the top level. Will be happy to be proven wrong.

There’s going to be a large group competing for midfield/flanker rotations (excluding the automatic selections) In no particular order:
Clark, Windhager, Garcia, Caroll, Byrnes, Dow, Jones, Travaglia.

Will be interesting how the pecking order stacks up but given injuries they’ll all likely get opportunity at some point.

Dunno about written off, I'm just not banking on him improving much more. At 25 years old and never having gotten more than 24 touches in an AFL level game and not being an elite kick/athlete, just don't think he has any one exceptional trait. He's pretty good at contests and winning the ball, so I got the point of picking him up when our midfield was lean and with Pou and Windhager needing time to develop, just don't see him being much more than depth with Macrae on board now and other kids picked up. Would love for him to prove me wrong though.

Don't get the obsession with winning the pre season time trials....pretty sure Plugger never won one. No Stawell Gifts are going to be won. Sick of hearing who came first second third or last.
They are called Time Trials for a reason.

Their main value is providing a basis of comparing each player's fitness level over time.

Is each player improving, or slipping? That is what it reveals

Anyone have any inside word into why our club is seemingly the only club who runs a 3km time trial instead of a 2k’er?
Because our players can?
🤣

Stoked with the Hugo reports. I think he's driven as F and is determined to to get everything and them some out of himself.

If he can put those cameos towards the end of the season, coupled with his latter VFL form into a full seniors game, the sky really is the limit.

Hope to hear more on Ari as well. I feel he's another who can launch in 2025.

I thought he’d be a good recruit but I’m writing him off. He’s a midfielder that can’t find the ball, normally by his age you are what are. Showed pretty much zero burst as well.

If one of Keeler or Garcia can become an unexpected break out star, it would totally change the course of our clubs future.

Keeler at full potential is exactly what we need in the forward line; a dynamic, athletic forward who can clunk marks, chop out in the ruck, and provide a point of difference/ foil to King.

Similarly, if Garcia could become a Libba (who I think is a comparison to him at his ceiling), then we have that hard nut, clearance focused mid with speed and defensive pressure out the wazoo. If that were to happen, then all of a sudden our midfield would look full of promise.

Love hearing that these two are catching people's eyes, and hope that they both play a big part in both preseason and 2025

Really caught my eye today. Standing next to Roh, always as tall or a cm or two taller, but a beanstalk, this preseason has come back not quite the measure of Roh but very close, getting a big backside and some girth. His work in the full field drills was very clean up forward and he looked like an AFL footballer. Time will tell but there is something definitely to work with.
How was that massive pack mark Keeler took.........you could almost hear the dropping jaws hitting the concrete......I nearly dropped my coffee.

Very very impressive.

Just cannot wait to see what happens with him next season.

The kid absolutely glides across the turf. He is starting to look like a unit now.

I know it is over the top slightly, but is there player across the league that is better suited to modern football than Darcy? Can run all day and at high speed longer than anyone else, is tall, can use the ball pretty well, has a massive leap and is quite versatile. The fact he was pick 18 is incredible.

Loving all the reports.

Thanks to all the track watchers.

Looking at the photos, Steele looks like he’s bulked up again.

This is significantly pleasing we need a bulked up Steele, the slimmed down Steele doesn’t do it for me.

Hunter looks like he’s put on some size also.

For God sake don't drop the coffee, costs a fortune and takes an age to make

That mark was well appreciated by all.of us on the fence, almost as much as the Hugo smother.

Stav’s Top 5 players that need to go to another level this offseason & next season

1. Max King - Self explanatory. The size is now there. But he needs to do more work than he ever has on the track. It is time. No excuses from here.

2. Phillipou - No secret we went to another level when he came back and took his game to another level. We now need a season of 25 disposals and goal each week.

3. Owens - Membrey gone. Poor season (although he still had some impact). He has to become the man alongside max in our fwd50

4. NAS - time is now. He needs to go from a very good half back. To challenging Sinclair in output. 22 next year and a big contract negotiation to take place.

5. Wilson - a lot to like about his first season. BUT only got to 25 touches once. (Yes it was THAT GAME) We’ve seen the ceiling. We need to see year on year improvement. 15 touches in 24. Needs to be 20 in 25 and hopefully with a. Goal a game.
You should do one of those "STAV's TOP 50 IN THE COMP" write-ups like Mike Sheehan and Robbo do so all the players know where they're at.
