Maybe I'm an optimist, but I'm perplexed by the doom and gloom I've seen online regarding Darcy's trip to Doha this week.

He's just ticked the boxes to be implemented into main training, why would we send him at a time earlier than this? If you want a biomechanist to review him, you want him as close to full fitness as you can get him so you can actually review his biomechanics. So this seems like an ideal time.

No point reviewing a man hobbling around on a knee recovering from surgery.

Listening to Joe Brierty live, it didn't sound like spin to me, but the journos were pushing for a headline. Darcy was always a chance of not playing round 1. Nothing to see here.

Correct.

Now they can provide feedback either how to improve his action to reduce impact, or what exercises he needs to do to build resilience.

Media like to create a doom story to hang shit on Freo

Fremantle ruckman Sean Darcy will travel to Doha later this week to continue his rehabilitation from knee surgery last August.

It did say later this week. Could be Thursday or Friday.
In terms of the discussion about if the trip was scheduled, or the result of a setback, it suggests it was scheduled.
