This is true

I already asked this but cannot find an answer anywhere and no one replied.

Just in case it was missed...

Do we know if we have an unofficial preseason game in mid Feb, or just the one against Collingwood at IKON?

Cheers

Caesar from PRE once again giving us the goods, some match-sim today! Thanks as always to the great man for keeping us in the loop!

Training Today Friday:

Big session, slightly later start, (10:15am - 12:45pm), with 40 minutes match sim  AFL umpires officiating.

Before we get to match sim there is a bit to discuss.

Firstly there is a stark, stark difference to the warm up practices under Serpell compared to recent pre-seasons. One they are longer, they are more varied, they are tailored for certain individuals and so much of it is on running technique and strengthening drills. I am sure there was method in previous years but to the eye Serpell has been given a much greater licence and is across everything right throughout the session and barking orders which I think would be new to some players. It is refreshing and at least something new.
A few posters have posted that Ben in his previous performance roles was a bit hard to get to know, likes to control his domain and may rub some people up the wrong way but I am super impressed so far.

Non Match Sim and Rehab participants:
Smillie rehab
Prestia, (light running)
McCaulliffe & Armstrong did warm up and a couple of main group drills and then rehab.
Jonty Faull, (finally doing some running in rehab and a bit of kicking which was good to see)
Juddy did a hell of a lot, even some main group drills, just holding him back for his full 12 month ACL tenure no doubt.
Young, Taj, and Gibcus are getting grass time now so at least I will get some visual on how they progress, (I do not expect any of these players to feature until at least the second half of the year and am not fussed if they don't as long as progression is steady and without setbacks).
Dow for all intense and purposes is back except for not participating in today's match Sim.
Colina not there.

Drills before match sim:
The main one always starts from half back with a chain of hands to an overlapping distributor by foot once they pass the defensive 50.
As @HKTigerB mentioned the other day kick ins usually go to pocket with the first look almost always inboard which is fine except when Noah decides to take this option;)
Wave running is encouraged and a lot of drills incorporate it.
There are a lot more intricate details that are too much for my non football brain to interpret.

40 Minute Match Sim:
Hugo and Sonz started on the wing.
Seth, Hopper, Taranto, Lalor, Ross, Kmac, Nank, Ryan (Mids and Followers)
Forwards: Fawcett, Simms, Bauer, Lynch, Gray, Steely, JNR, Mansel
Defenders: Kossi, Blight, Trigger, Vlaustin, Kaleb, Brown, Banks, Broad, Trainor, Shorty
Some VFL boys made up the numbers.

Game:

Match was decided by a couple of points.

Clearances, Nank and Samson battled it out and I thought it was pretty even, Hopper was the best clearance player today but wisely got the handball away to others most of the time.
Samson took a really strong down the line grab so he can actually mark.
Lalor completed the whole 40 minute match, the first 30 minute half as a mid and the 10 minute second half in the forward pocket, he didn't impact at all but was great that he is getting up to speed and competing now rather than being held back.
Key forwards, none really took contested marks except Bauer which is strange seeing he has non contact hat on.
Simms pretty much matched up on Balta, he took one diving mark on the half forward flank and kicked the goal from the boundary, (I am very happy to see him in the set up, a big lad and Lynchy was imparting his wisdom on occasions).
Defenders Bight and Kossi were very disciplined today making life difficult for the forwards.
Here I go again, Tom Brown was a class above, (oh I hear the knockers saying it is his no contact hat;)).
It must be the non contact hats, Bauer was the other star:)
My love:love: for the day was Jasper Alger, he took a mark against Vlaustin between the wing and half forward, he delivered it to the forward line by foot and nearly in the next bit of play was there swooping on the ground ball and picking up cleanly. He took a mark in the back pocket and provided an outlet on a couple of other occasions. I can't see how he won't make it and maybe not just as a small forward.
Fawcett didn't really put up his hand up today IMO.

After all this Serpell had players doing some more running to round things off as he had been throughout the entire session.

During the session this time with virtually all the players participating and including speedsters, Kaleb Smith, Hugo, Seth. JNR they did 3 x 100m sprints with 20 seconds rest and once again Tom Brown won all three in a canter.
