It is a smart strategy. The canery in the coal mine approach. If he is the face of the rebuild then he is the one that is going to be focused on from media and fans. You want your sacrificial lambs to be enticing enough as bait to be able to draw everyone in.

You look at some clubs and their players always look strong, hard and fit, youngsters take like 2 seasons to hit ideal player weight. Under Louie it was like he held our players back. You'd see better gains from players when they were away from the club rather than in the club gym.
