How often do fans of the 3rd ranked team enter a clash with the 8th ranked team with a sense of dread - on our home deck, I might add.
Who knows what we'll see tonight?
Been feeling like this all week when considering this game for tipping - I want to pick us but you just can't trust us at all, especially in big games.
On the one hand, this is the sort of game Hinkleyball was made for - primetime nationally televised game against a well followed Victorian opposition, with a win entrenching us in the top 4 - which is to say, this is the sort of game we routinely drop. Our form in May has been poor (save for the first 40 minutes in Geelong before we stopped and all but blew an 8 goal lead, and the last 40 seconds against Hawthorn after we were garbage all afternoon... North Melbourne was a free pass), and we have a few injuries.
On the other hand, Carlton I think have been overrated this season (based on a return to competence after decades of crap), their record here is absolutely awful (their one win coming via the umpire assist in Gather Round this year IIRC), and they (much like us) have a tendency to let down their supporters.
Hinkley and Voss play such similar game styles as well, throw in the wet weather and it becomes a nightmare game to pick because we just don't know who will turn up.
That said - Carlton by 11 points.
