Port or Crows, who's been more successful in the AFL?

Both clubs have been highly underwhelming. You can argue that since the Royal Commission in 2007 that the odds of winning a flag as a Non Vic Side are unfavourable, but the Crows absolutely pissed away the chance to become a Super Club and Port have pissed away their Superior Club culture and ethos under the Yoke of the Bald Buffon and Hick Loser Coach that should have been fired into the sun a decade ago, but ridiculously still remains. A Sad State of Affairs indeed.

The key stats are:

Premierships
Adelaide: 2
Port Power: 1

Finals:
Adelaide: 36
Port Power: 32

Final wins:
Adelaide: 18 (50%)
Port Power: 14 (44%)

Head to Head:
Adelaide: 28
Port Power: 28

Home and Away:
Adelaide: 51%
Port Power: 54%

So Port Power win one metric, say the Leigh Matthews metric, and Adelaide win the finals metrics, say the rest of the world metrics. But it's close, Adelaide need to get good again to keep these advantages.

Both clubs are bit of a laughing stock, no offence. I mean Adelaide’s implosion post-power stance and tex being racist and Port’s had racism scandals too and also keeps trying to fight afl about teal and they have a coach that most of their supporters have hated for years. I am a port adelaide supporter (second team behind dees) so maybe biased but as far as success goes they’re both equal imo because both clubs have done nothing for 20 years. Who cares what happened before then, was port even in the competition when Adelaide bradbury’d two flags?

Melbourne have had one of the worst AFL careers of any club, including:

Premierships: 1
Win record: 44%

Wins vs Port Power: 41%
Wins vs Adelaide: 43%

So wouldn't be putting the Adelaide clubs above yours just yet mate :)

To be fair, you also need to consider those stats against how many years each have been in the competition.

Victorians have a lot of respect for the Crows and see them as a powerhouse club, representing the proud Australian Football state of SA as the pride of South Australia and team for all South Australians.
Very similar to West Coast who are widely recognised as a powerhouse club.

Hard for clubs in WA and SA to win premierships though when the big Melbourne clubs have a monopoly on talent, and have the MCG as their home ground.
Collingwood are living the dream being contracted to play 14 games (9 home 5 away) at the MCG every home and away season.

What about spoons, negative metrics need to be taken into account too.

Hearing Leigh Matthews hailing Geelong as the most successful club of the 21st century despite Hawthorn having won more flags in that time has got me thinking about who's been more successful out of the two SA clubs.

Port have a better win percentage and lead the Crows in the H2H count but the Crows have won an extra flag just like how Hawthorn have an extra flag over Geelong. Using Leigh Matthews logic you'd say Port have been the most successful South Australian club in the AFL era.

Which club do you think has been more successful in the AFL? Port or the Crows?
Crows crows crows. Flags flags flags.

7 year head start. Adelaide should be ahead by more in finals, grand finals and premierships considering they have 90% of the SA football market at their disposal. Where did the money go? At least have 1 final Showdown in your list of achievements.

Better finals win ratio, better GF win ratio - but yes, the last 5 years has been bad for us, these things happen and the longer we go, the less the 7 year 'head start' matters - it's not that long.

Do you think Port have been more successful? You would know more than most that Power's finals performance is painfully poor.

Adelaide to win a final this year.

There is no denying our under achievements, doesn't help that we have a used car salesman as a coach for the last 12 years.
