Why so shouty?

Haven't seen Mark Williams much down our way since we gave him the sack. Not sure how much credence we give to former club champion that has fallen out with the club. One of the criticisms Mark received before he left the club is the perception that he was bigger than the club. Not something that is aligned to the current clubs culture.

Gerard Healy and namesake Whately made a point where the great thing about AFL are the colours. That no team has the same colours as others, unlike in football (soccer) and basketball.

Thing they did not note was that in football (soccer) at least that there's 20 teams in each division (of english football), with promotion and relegation where teams chop and change....and also various cup games, both domestic and international. Ergo there's going to be shared colours

Mark Williams is the only senior coach thats delivered us an AFL premiership.

Also what he says in the video is exactly what most of us are saying now. Embrace the future, but respect the past and wear it now and then when we want. Thats all that has ever been put forward by the club.

Fair enough, TBH I did not listen to the clip just assumed based on other previous member anecdotes that his views was not inline with the current PAFC values. I was under the belief that there was still tension between Mark & the PAFC.

There may well be but he has always been a straight shooter and nails it in that clip from my perspective.

Its only about 20 seconds fwiw.

Meh I disagree for the record... I dont even want 2 because I dont think the Tingles have earned the right to be in those games. I still dont see why we are trying to limit wearing our historic guernsey against an embarrassing joke of a franchise with no history. The closest thing the cows have ever gotten to anything heritage is when they were blindfolded singing the Richmond themesong on their way to Camp Cuck.

I just want us to be able to choose occasional home games where we can bring it out (Id be fine if the afl set us a max limit of 2/year), and not have to deal with this nonsense every time.

Imagine wearing the bars at home against real football clubs, and the additional hype when we do so. Thats what I want.

Your more extensive ambition might be missing a large part of both the technical and the symbolic matters at the heart of this issue. Wearing the bars jumper in a showdown directly displays the deep and pervasive SANFL tradition of Port vs 'the rest' that arose from Port's dominance of that competition over its long history. In many ways the fans of the respective teams bring that same historical character to showdowns. The bars would serve to both authentically and accurately represent and celebrate that traditional SANFL character. For that reason the SANFL should be on the wagon backing the bars into the showdowns. That they aren't, and that Olsen so explicitly rejects them, simple testifies to the nature of the very character that Port Adelaide is seeking to celebrate.

Limiting the jumper to just that local theatre duly respects and preserves the history whilst also avoiding all of the dissipating issues that arise from injecting that local character, 'brand competition', allegation of identity crisis, etc., into the national arena of competition. Nonetheless that history is exposed upon that national stage for those who are capable of understating it.

Eddie just now: "I've got nothing to say on the matter".. Proceeds to complain for 2 minutes.

"David Koch sticking his nose into AFL business.....hope he doesn't end up with a broken nose"

Who the **** does Eddie think he is? Al Capone?

We are the power. We aren't trying to be the magpies. The design of a guernsey isn't tied to the nickname.

Were you outraged that in 1997 we had a guernsey with a black and white pattern designed to be symbolic of a magpie wing? Closer to anything magpie related than the pylons.
They thought it was the SBS logo.
