A combined total os 70. it's getting worse.

You can pass history at school by memorising dates but at the end of the day dates don't mean a thing unless one tries to understand the reason for events culminating on those dates.

It may have gone something like:

A long time ago there was a club called Port Adelaide that realised that the competition it was playing in was becoming
less important in the scheme of things compared to what it used to be.
It then had an idea: "Let's leave this competition and join the competition that is obviously going to be the elite one"

SANFL thought: "Ah it's only the warfies and wannabe warfies talking crud they'll never do it"

...........(some time has passed).........

The AFL thought "Ah nobody can accuse us of destabilising any other comp we didn't ask them. You beauty!"
When SANFL got wind of this they thought: "Bastard warfies!"
They got in touch with the AFL, pinched the licence,
and thought: "This'll shut the traitors up. Bloody warfies!"

But Port Adelaide went after this with the same determination it used in winning all those championships, and the AFL was still very keen but careful in not being seen as the instigator.

Eventually Port got it's wishes but:

A) There is a funny licensing agreement to make the SANFL feel as if they're in charge.

B) It could not use it's logo or colours because people in charge of another club at the time thought:
"Hey that's not how they do it in America!
What about the merchandising.
We were here first, you go get another logo and change your
colours!"

C) The SANFL then said :"Hey you can't leave just like that!
You must create a club to replace yourself so that things appear unchanged, BUT you are not to run it."
ENTER the PAMFC.

Now you ask how can people follow two Port Adelaide's.
Easy!
Who do you follow in the SANFL, the CROWS?
Do you expect Port people to just drop everything and start supporting Norwood, Sturt, Glenelg or other?
Or are they not allowed to have anything to do with the SANFL any more?
Should they just ignore the PAMFC?

Now the shared history bit is the bit you use to toss bait in the river.
Well ....you say Tomato I say Tomato......
