Players you admire/dislike from other clubs

The amount of times I saw Carey lift the elbow and dig it into someone and not get pinged was unbelievable.....I knew then that he wasn't the "great" man they thought he was.... Robert Harvey doesn't feel a need to do that..............in fact, out of the two of them, I'd much rather see Robert Harvey in the Hall of Fame...surely he ticks EVERY box and has been an ornament of the game..

I always hated Wayne Carey as a player and am laughing all the way to Miami at the moment!

Wayne Carey was the ultimate footballer, he intimidated, made his own players walk taller, he grabbed games by the scruff of the throat. He owned footy. With his genius come a terrible downside, i don't excuse his behaviour or try to understand it. He has acted appallingly and deserves to be isolated by society at this stage. Abusing women is not acceptable and he should suffer the consequences.

I admire little, slow or "unfashionable blokes who overcome their deficiencies through skills, smarts or courage.

I would say I am the opposite. The rooting for the underdog side of me likes to see the slow and fashionable succeed, but it is the players who can dominate that I admire.

Hello...is that you Jonothan? ;)

dislike: tredrea. what a show pony, has always reeked of arrogance and led by poor example IMO.

like: Robbo (he has to be the best spekky-taker of all time consistency-wise?)
obviously i love lots of other players, but robbo springs to mind for now.

Agree, and so does anyone else who has met him. And if you saw him at the family day you'd see what a great bloke he is and the time he puts in with the kids and the autograph hounds.

If anyone had a problem with him I'd say the problem is theirs, not his.

You are entitled to you opinion as am I, but we are talking apples and pears.

Nice bloke with plenty of time for old friends and the average punter. Each to their own, I spose.

Enjoy Watching : Matthew Richardson. Pound for pound the most entertaining man in AFL today. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you may even on the odd occasion see some decent football.

Admire: Scotty West. Pure class, would be a brownlow winner if at any other club.

Dislike: Any player from the E-Girls.

or mine that he remembers his footy mates, an dis nice to supporters.
I would hope all players do that to be honest.
I guess the difference is that you are publicly insulting a player about an aspect of his personal life (at least by insinuation) whereas I am not. I am not picking on you - I just feel that nothing is gained by you sharing your negative views on Pratt.

I would not have a problem if you insulted him as a footballer or even in terms of his public persona - as other posters have done. But to cast doubt on his personal character in a way that is neither supported by evidence nor is able to be refuted by the man himself is not very fair, at least IMHO. I have had negative experiences with one of our greatest champions and, from a personal perspective, don't think much of the guy - but I would never bring those issues forth in this environment. Nothing is gained and it is not fair on him (who from all other reports is a pretty decent bloke) nor is it fair on the people who are his family, friends or simply just fans who would feel like they have to defend him.

I am not saying that you don't have a good reason for disliking the guy - just questioning what is gained by you bringing it into the public domain when it would appear to be a personal issue.

publically insulting by saying I dont like a player. How is that. IMO its way way over the top.
A lot of people dont like Waybne Carey and have been quite blunt on here with opinions, yet thats okay is it. When all I said I dont like the player. I never said why, gave no specific details.Nothing, yet you come out with this tirade at me.

That might be your problem...Sitting back and making vague/generic comments about a person character are generally more harmful than specific ones which are supported by reason.

yet you come out with this tirade at me.

I'd hardly call it a tirade. Thought it was quite a well reasoned argument.

Anyway the dislike part of the thread starts and ends at Stephen Milne for mine. Just absolutely annoys the shit out of me.:D

The difference is that you are talking about him in a personal capacity. Some posters say "champion bloke", "nice guy" etc and you counter that repeatedly.

There are facts and issues in the public domain which means that it is reasonably fair to make a judgment on Carey. Unless I am missing something, Daniel Pratt has a relatively low public profile and certainly there is not conduct akin to Carey's which is in the public domain.

When all I said I dont like the player. I never said why, gave no specific details.

Again, you chose to respond to people who say that he is a nice bloke in a manner which denigrates his reputation. Without taking a straw poll, I believe it is fair to say that no-one took your comments as a slight on his football or even on his public character. Without any comment like "Pratt squibs it on the field" or "Remember when Pratt had a crack at his teammates", then I (and I expect other posters) am left with no other choice but to think that you have a personal axe to grind with him.

As notting18 has said, it is in the way that you have posted. Check out the negative comments made by other posters - it is about the players' football or, at worst, opinions based on facts which are in the public domain.

Nothing, yet you come out with this tirade at me.

Your opinion of "nothing" and your opinion of "tirade" are substantially different to mine.

You have chosen to make the point repeatedly that you don't think that he is a good person, despite the fact that 3 other posters said otherwise. What harm is there in letting the opinions of those others go unanswered? They do no damage to anyone. Your view is on the record.

I apologise if you think it is a tirade but I am simply pointing out that I do not see that your repeated posts on the subject add anything other than calling into question a person's character. You seem to feel it is your responsibility to counter anyone who has a positive view about the guy. Why? Does it matter that other people like him?

IMO, a person can defend another's character and it causes no concern. But when people choose to denigrate a person's character on multiple occasions, if not directly than at least by insinuation, then I don't see it as particularly fair.

so Jed saying Milne annoys the shit out of him/her, is specific enough.:thumbsu:

 When did i say that?

Although when you are discussing a player with a specific public persona and your comments align with that persona, there is less need to justify yourself. eg. If I was to say that I admire Mahatma Ghandi. There would be less need to justify myself than if I said I admire Pervez Musharraf.

2 parts to my thing with Pratt.

1 is onfield and off field football related. I said this when it occured last year, with the eye gouging complaint, when nothing on vision at time, pictures of face showed no damage, yet complaint raised. It pisses me off when players do this.

I had a similar problem years ago when our Fly was outed on a no vision complaint in a semi against the bulldogs. especially when said incident happened in front of us, and nothing happened. Fly was outed, it was a disgrace.

The 2nd is a family matter.

Thats why I said apples and oranges. Dislike on 2 sides of coin.

as for Carey,I feel for his child.
