Once again - it isn't harmless. These things can be extremely damaging.

Maxwell didn't know anything about a bet being placed. Shaw actively participated in a bet being placed. Massive difference.

I tend to agree, you can't prove Maxwell did anything other than tell his family that he was playing up forward, i'm pretty sure he's allowed to do that. There would have to be evidence that maxwell participated in the betting. I don't think that has been proven, or even can be proven

I know a couple of AFL players,

If I go and chuck $10 on them for first goal and they link me to themwill they get weeks??

Hmmmm.... joke.

No.

But if they tell you beforehand that they have been sent up forward by their coach for the start of this weekend's match, then yes.

Love it!

Watching this club self implode.

Coach given the boot at the end of the year when he & his players are against it and now this betting scandal involving a repeat offender and the clubs captain.

Hope someone pulls the tape when eddie said if Shaw steps out of line again he is out of the place.

Poor Collingwobbles

Maxwell has supported the decision and has said he didn't know until yesterday his family members had made that bet.

Maxwell didn't KNOW his family placed the bet?? HAHAHA!! Your kidding right? SO he tells them he is playing up forward ( probably also tells them he is $100 to 1 to kick the first goal) and they then think "hey I am going to bet on this, but SHhhhh, I won't tell Nick that I am doing it, I'll just wish him luck and keep it a secret from him...SHHHHH.... I have to protect his image...SHHHHH."

F8kcing hilarious.

When I think about gambling being an issue in sport I think about bets in the $1,000's of dollars or throwing games - I just don't understand how a $20 bet equates to this sort of suspension being warranted.

You're not really understanding this, are you?

No.

But if they tell you beforehand that they have been sent up forward by their coach for the start of this weekend's match, then yes.

If they give you privy information that makes you place that bet, then yes. Just like insider share trading.

No one has ever said anything but Imjust saying how would they know... Its a tough one...

I'd be pretty close to the front of the line to give Maxwell a nice left hook to the liver, but even I don't think this would be the case.

This is bigger than footy, I'm pretty sure it will emerge that he has a deep gambling problem, this should be all about getting him sorted out first.

I guess they wanna make an example of it now before it gets out of hand.

Honestly, Shaw would have known he shouldnt have put it on but would have thought "surely no one will find out"

The amounts don't scream problem gambler, especially someone on his pay packet.

He is just an idiot.
