Im defending a lot better, better attacking movements but I STILL CANT FINISH! I have like 20-30 chances every damn game and when i dribble past them or have 1 v 1s, they just sky them so much! They can shoot far outside the box for a great effort but inside, of course with less power etc, they just sky them heaps bah!

Curse of Bigfooty posting too early. I think I gotta hold it a bit less, I don't hold it that much to be honest but yeah got 4 goals this game after finding it hard to score, good goals as well!
I changed formation, I think it worked.

I smashed about 15 shots into the cross and side bars tonight in just 2 games. Even one from 1 metre out with Eto'o ended up hitting the crossbar!

I have come to the conclusion that PES 2012 demo 2 is the better of the FIFA and PES demo's. I also believe it'll probably translate into the better game as well.

So far, PES is just more organic. It's more natural in it's forward and defensive movements and there's no bullshitting going on. The AI will miss both shots and passes if under the right amount of pressure.

However it's a few niggles that will likely see me not pick it up. Again the presentation and UI remains woeful, I just can't get around this part of the game. It's SO damn bad! The licensing issues will show up a fair bit too when the full game is out.

The free kick and corner systems, they seem to lack control. Or I just don't know what to do on them. I've tried the selecting another player, but that feels a little cheap and I dunno, it just results in me doing the same thing over and over again with the players too. The corner and free kick systems in FIFA are fantastic, you can put a ton of control into your kicks and really guide it to where you want. When you nail a shot/pass just where you wanted it to go, it's an amazing feeling.

But what's fantastic about PES is that as I said before, there's no bullshitting. I think TSYW nailed it in the FIFA thread saying that the AI is cheap. It knows what you're going to do when you do it because the AI is reading your button and stick prompts...it's...cheating.

And while it's sort of always been similar or like that in the past, when you have different systems in place for things like defending and passing, it makes those cheat manoeuvres stick out like a sore thumb. And it's one of those things that makes you feel completely helpless when a cheat situation happens, you have done ALL you can do to stop the attacking moves and still they pull off a short and low pass right in front of goal that's tapped in and you just stand/sit there shrugging like..."What more could I do...seriously?". This does not happen in PES, if I concede a goal, I know it's because I stuffed up, not because the AI pulled off a ridiculous pass for a goal.

I still want to check out the expanded version of FIFA and am looking forward to seeing what Ultimate Team is for the first time, I want to give it a chance before I throw it away. If none of it ends up working and it's just frustration after frustration, I may try my hand at PES for the first time since PS2 days. However I won't be purchasing both, I'm just not that much of a soccer nut.

Use R2 for finesse. Also, a handy trick to get past players, hold R2 then R1 and they knock it past them. It's easy and it's effective.

Which team did you change the formation on?

The UI is easy enough to get over. You're being too pedantic. You have so much more freedom of formations too. It's fair enough that you're being picky, but to not buy a game because of its layout is silly, especially considering how good PES actually is.

There will be option files to download with licenses.

Agree about the corners and free kicks. If you go to the tactics, you can bring up your CBs on an attack, I usually select them and try to knock it in with them.

I remember in PES 3 I could nail 9/10 free kicks.

Yeah same. How does the option file work? You just copy it and install it? Are you still able to edit though?
There's pretty detailed tutorials around by the time they come out, but normally it's just a case of d/ling the files onto a USB, and then copy and pasting it onto the hard drive. It can be a bit time consuming, but is well worth it.

I've never tried to edit kits and whatnot further, but I'd say you should be able to. I also play around with stadiums and whatnot, try to make them look a little better.

I think John Murphy mentioned on his twitter that installing option files will be significantly less tedious this year since you will be able to copy the whole folder, not 100% on it though

Used to try do the kits the best I could on PS2.

A few of my mates made, Arsenal, United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs emblems as well in the editor on PES 5/6.

How do you take free kicks? Mine just hit the wall every time!

I usually lay them off and have a crack. Hold shoot down (don't tap it), and I have worked out holding it down and left or down and right is sometimes good.
