Patrick Lipinski = 2020's Ryan Lonie.

Both have physical attributes to be anything, but also both are soft.

If I were coach, and I am not, I would pair him up with Brayden. Patrick on one side and Brayden on the other. Throw the ball in between and the objective is to 'WIN' it and dish it out to a teammate. Repeat until Patrick learns what it is required.

I know many will disagre with me and think this is harsh. Please watch him when there is a contest, he shirks it so many times, he undoes all the skilful work by letting the opposition win the ball easily and run away with it.

He would NOT get a game at Hawthorn under Mitchell until he demonstrated consistently the ability to win contested ball and dish it off.

You can't have 90% of the team doing it and 10% pulling out of contests, preserving their 'good looks'.
Seriously poor stuff. It’s a real wonder you’re not a coach

Patty, like Hyphen, is one of these players who seems to attract an undue level of opprobium.
Most people now recognise Will's value, and hopefully the same will happen with Lippa.
As an example, his handball to Bobby that led to our first goal last night was a gem.
He's not a hard nut, but the quality of his disposal is a big plus.
He definitely is NOT a hard nut. In saying that he's also NOT impactful enough to get away with being so soft. That was my point.

WHE has more hurt factor than Lipinski. His contested marks, speed and goals are better. WHE is more versatile position wise. He also throws his body into marking contests and wins them.

Genuinely ridiculous. Lipinski compared to WHE is a bloodbath:
  • Lippa gets ~10 more disposals yet turns it over less;
  • Kicks it 10% more efficiently on significantly more attempts;
  • Generates more I50s and R50s at all;
  • Generates almost 150m more per game;
  • Intercepts the opposition much more;
  • Gets the hard ball (WHE has zero hard ball gets for the season);
  • Gains stoppage clearances where WHE does not;
  • Has the same amount of contested marks this season (zero); and
  • Has more score involvements.

Do you think Fly knows something about him that you don't?
Because Lippa gets picked every week.

Lipinski had 9 score involvements against Sydney.
He gathered his 24 disposals all over the ground, indicating his elite running power.

His job is to receive the ball and deliver effectively, which he does well. Your criticism is misguided

Contested marks? 😂. Yup that’s a stat that all top wingers must have

I have never understood the long running criticism of Lipinski. He was recruited to be an outside runner with excellent disposal. He is exactly that. He does all the other AFL level player things to a lower level, because there are very few players who excel at everything. As I have said before, there are no weak players getting regular games at AFL level. It is just too tough for that. You need the elite kicks on their feet with a little time to look, not grovelling in the packs and on their knees all the time.

I agree with you in terms of his lack of physicality and at times it hurting us.

But he was excellent vs Swans. Was running hard, breaking the lines and very damaging by foot all night.
Wasn't any major shirk or pulling out of the loose contest from him vs Swans that i noticed.
Thought it's the best I've seen from him in that role this year.

Does need to work on the willingness for contact side moving forward.

Every team has a number of different types of player. Lipinski is defintely an outside mid and you need those. His disposal, especially by hand, is elite and he is a link player. Not everyone needs to be the in-and-under, hard nut type.
He is clearly playing a role and he is actually quite good at it. He doesn't need to be compared to the Maynards and Mitchells of the team.

no one expects him to be Maynard but when his turn to go he doesn't. that's always the criticism of him.
