DOB: 19/9/72

Height: 187cm

Weight: 89 kg

Playing number: 22

Arrived: Drafted at pick 39 in the 1996 national draft, from Claremont

Debut: Round 4, 1997 vs Hawthorn - 107th Eagles player.

Games: 33

Goals: 4

Departed: Delisted at the end of the 2000 season.

A mature-age recruit, Stone won a premiership with Claremont as a 24-year-old before being drafted by West Coast in 1996.

A dependable mid-sized back in the Brett Jones mould, Stone made his debut early in 1997 at Subiaco alongside another new recruit from Claremont, Michael Gardiner. Stone played 14 games for the year, pircking up 14 touches and 2 goals against Melbourne in his second match, and was a regular in the side from the half-way point. Stone played both finals, picking up 15 touches and laying 8 tackles in the semi-final loss to North Melbourne.

Stone was in and out of the side in 1998, splitting his time between West Coast and Claremont. He added another 14 games, and again featured in the finals where he netted 16 possessions and 7 marks against the Bulldogs.

A groin injury wrote Stone off for the first half of 1999. Due to the late start, he managed just one game during the regular season but was again recalled in time for the final against the Dogs. He spent the majority of the 2000 season at Claremont, managing just three senior games in the middle of the year, and was delisted at the end of the season.

He was also our first player to get pinged for recreational drug use...

He played some half decent footy for us but was ultimately short of AFL standard.

So...he got stoned?

good value defender, was a fav of mine in his short time at the eagles
wonder what he is up to now

Yeah good question. I've dropped the "where are they now" part of these - partly because it seemed a bit stalkery, partly because it was too hard trying to track down people with common names like "Nick Stone" :D

It's one of the best parts in my opinion, Fivey.

Stone played at Claremont until the end of 2002 before retiring.

I absolutely hated this guy, not entirely sure why. He was a long running (well not that long he didn't stick around long enough) joke between my sister and i. He was a complete dud.

Remember meeting him at a family day at Perth Oval and he was pretty aloof and spaced out. I'm going to dig up the pics. Have a great pic of cuz, morrison and woosh from the day
