His run of form is absolutely bizarre - it’s now something like 15 innings without passing even 40 let alone 50 yet he’s only been dismissed in single figures twice. It’s not like he’s going out there just in wretched form and can’t get set
He only has 9 Test centuries, abit like Kohli early on just hasn’t went on a run of form yet

lol @ pope opening. Why would an exceptionally nervous starter volunteer to open in a test match?

He's getting hit on the pads/bowled a heap more now. He looks to have squared off his stance to try and stop edging balls outside off stump but as a consequence he's missing balls coming into him.

Might be a correlation there to your starts stat as teams try and get him to knick off early, doesn't work so they start targeting the stumps.

Wonder what happened to fawad alam. Just played his first games in nearly two years

Another ton for Root and he has gone past Cook as England's leading test run scorer.

Pope si the only England batsman so far that hasn't made it past 50 which says a lot about this pitch.

Yes it will PROBABLY be a draw and England’s dogshit attack should see to that - Leach at his best could cause a few problems if it started to break up and Atkinson has a bit about him but it’s pretty poor.

But yet again assuming there is no disastrous collapse, it’s there for all to see: the benefit of how they approach their innings.
If they’re still batting at stumps tonight, the deficit should be well under 100 based on how quick they usually score, and the general rule of thumb for a lot of us growing up was that the first 3 days of a test you allowed for the teams to play their first innings, the last 2 you allowed for the two teams to play their second.

It would still theoretically give time for a result to be forced if one of them could find a way to take wickets.

I bang on about it more than any non-England fan in here (in fact I think there actually IS only one England fan here) but their method might cost them some games but it gives them opportunities to win that they wouldn’t otherwise get

In fact as someone on Facebook pointed out last night, previous England even on this road would have come out and been 3-50 at stumps last night in the face of 556

England are doing a far better job of pushing the scoring rate along than Pakistan did in their first innings with a few exceptions.

They were well above 4 an over when they were 2-260. By the time they lost their 8th wicket even though they’d been in charge all the way along that had dropped to about 3.5 so you’re right even though their rate ended up pretty healthy anyway after some late hitting they missed some chances to really assert themselves

looking forward to flicking through this board in summer and reading casuals calling a pitch a 'road' because the side batting first is 3/200.

this pitch here, is a road. coming up on one thousand runs now and thirteen wickets at three days.

bloody casuals....

Have only just switched it on. Missed the rest of the game.

Do Pakistan have no other choice with their climate? But why do the keep playing on the flattest of pitches?

Think the Bazballers proved last time in Pakistan that they have too much firepower if there is nothing in it for the bowlers
