Richo is certainly a try-hard.
Lacks the requisite skillset and acumen to be in a CE position, but I'd like to think he'd be capable if doing a decent job somwhere at Alberton.
Maybe team manager, or some such thing, down a rung or two?

But we definitely need a sharp, savvy, take no prisoners dynamo to be our CE into the next decade.

I reckon our Board (and others) down there, are too proud to admit to their mistakes to sack any of their appointees, and too afraid to push aside people they are close to, to allow better credentialed people to take those spots.

Thus pride and friendship, and the dread of being shown to lack competence and of offending others, have shackled our decision making, leading to inertia. Now the fear of any change (however beneficial) has infiltrated the on field sector these days too. The results are self evident.

The club should be putting staff in positions that they are suited to, and capable of fulfilling.

But hey!
Don't rock the boat, baby!
Someone could make a song from that quote!!!!!

He's not capable of being an effective CEO. He shouldn't be given another position at the club as there is the potential of undermining the authority of the new CEO.

The Chasing Greatness scam alone should see him gone.

Chewy316 's info that he was the driving force behind the 2023 Hinkley extension should have already seen him fall on his sword, but we don't do accountability at Port Adelaide.

Anywhere else in the world, in any major sport, a very controversial coaching contract extension with a coach who hadn't won anything followed by an absolutely pathetic finals exit would see multiple key decision makers fall on their sword. Outside of situations like the Dallas Cowboys where the owner is the GM, this sort of thing just doesn't happen. We're a legitimate outlier, blazing new trails of mediocrity.

2021 extension mate. Signed for 2 years prior to the start of the 2021 season. The Board only wanted to do 1 year, Richo pushed for 2, seemingly as a sign of the HC and CEO being in lockstep given Richo was a new CEO.

My own theory is that the Board have gotten themselves in a quagmire with Hinkley's contract and so are content with remaining competitive without being a realistic flag chance, whilst strengthening their financial situation (reduction of debt, increasing assets etc).

I personally wonder whether Ken would have been sacked whilst contracted had the Club been stronger financially (for instance with very little to no debt on the books). Impossible to know either way though.

Richo is a capable operator on the business side of things - but he's another one who has a significant say in the football operations of the Club whilst having zero actual football experience.

If only the PAFC was in a business other than professional sport.

One could suggest the CEO should have nothing to do with the footy operations to begin with.

There's a place for Richo at the Club - but he shouldn't be part of the footy decision making. The Club should have an organisational structure similar to NFL teams. That is, a CEO running the business side of operations, and a GM/VP of football operations (aka a footy operations manager in AFL terms) running the football side. At Port there's too much overlap between the two.

My guess is no, given the 2023 extension. Enough of the key decision makers still want him here and always have.

Coupled with a self-fulfilling mythos that they’ve performed utter miracles by turning the liddlewiddlepiddle working class, blue collar, not BHP, foodiclub from Alberton into a viable concern.

There were TARPS on the SEATS!

You’d be CRAZY to pull the rug on it all, especially within sight of being in the BLACK for the first time since the ‘Club 96’ days.

The Board extended him on the sole reason of the footy committee's recommendation which was based on their 13 win streak. Nothing else. Not even the director of coaching Rob Mason was consulted by the committee with regards to the extension either which just seems totally bizarre on the face of it. In fact, prior to the extension there was a Board meeting where the directors were prepared to sack him soon after that untenable Showdown loss in round 3.

I don't think he has nearly as much support as he's had in previous years. But I'll extend that by saying if there's no succession plan announced by round 1, all bets are off and this shitshow could well and truly continue for years to come.

They are always acting like the tarps were a punishment from the footy gods.

Nope, they were a seemingly rational financial decision made by those running the club that backfired, just like not sacking Hinkley.

Glam up a concrete shitbowl with some colourful bunting to earn a few bucks for a couple of years - LOLZ POORT TARPADELAIDE 119 !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Question the Board continuing to back in the premiership antichrist despite our mission statement - UNGRATEFUL WHITE NOISE THAT CAN'T RECOGNISE COACHING GENIUS AND UNPRECEDENTED SELF-SACRIFICE THAT PUTS PLAYING THE KIDS AHEAD OF JOB SECURITY !!!!

Our financial position tends to rule a lot of decisions made at Port.
I can understand it to a point but maybe it has hindered our decision making to a point of causing long term harm.
Sometimes in life you just have to roll the dice.

Chris Davies' personal friendship and co gambling syndicate conspirator with crybaby Kenny should have seen him out the door years ago. As for Matthew, he should be nowhere near the footy committee based on the limited discussions we've had.

I’m always reminded of the time he scoffed at Rick in that committee meeting(?) at 11-4 in 2018.

How’d that end up, ya clown.

We need an external review of our footy operations, I hope Tredders & Fiacchi are pushing for this.

An external review is meaningless if the powers involved aren't willing to implement the changes advised from said review.

I am not an advocate for an external review, but rather I'm an advocate for the Club bringing in half a dozen of its well known former players spanning across the 80s, 90s and 00s who have had the ultimate success as players (and as part of the Club) and then gone on to forge successful post playing careers. These people 1) know what it takes to be successful in a variety of circumstances both as individuals and as a team, and 2) they understand what it means to represent the Port Adelaide Football Club.

There's a clear disconnect between the current regime and the legends of years past, and I don't believe that to be simply a case of generational change.
