I’m not a cynic when it comes to him and that might make me naive, he might be a brutal politician. I reckon he simply wants the best outcome. And if his advice is that there’s no reason the ground can’t be turned around, then he’ll push for what he reckons is the best outcome for SA.

I don’t understand why there’s not a permanent agreement with an SANFL club. When it happens they get paid a reasonable amount for the hassle.
Most SANFL clubs don't get to train on their.home decks for most of the pre season, i dont think they'd be willing to shift.

The SACA needed to do a better job with their own 2nd ground. Moving into the parklands on an amateur league oval was a silly move.

Not putting a clause in their agreement in regards to hosting a shield final was the 2nd one.

It wasn't an amateur league oval. It was under Adelaide High School's control but hadn't been used for a number of years. Had fallen into disrepair

Old Ignatians came there after SACA had redeveloped the oval

The problem was they ran out of money during construction, so spectator facilities were what made way. They've got the essentials - pitches, training facilities, player's changerooms. No extras

That makes it even worse TBH.

There's a bar and a kitchen upstairs but Iggies arent really allowed to use them.

That's incorrect.

I remember umpiring Div 3 Old Iggies there 15 years ago when it was a shitty run down oval.

When they redeveloped it, (Sometime between 11-6 years ago) I umpired a Div 2 Old Iggies game which they played on the oval behind it.

Then once the redevelopment was completed, I was umpiring div 1 Old Iggies games on Karen Rolton Oval.

You're saying Old Iggies moved there in 2018? Well, I umpired them there in 2010 and (checks my stats) 2017

You can see here: https://australianfootball.com/seasons/season/adfl/104/men%27s+premiership+season/102/516/2013 (only goes back to 2013) that they used Hunter Park. Which was the same site.

A bunch of clubs sub-leased the oval from Adelaide High School over the years

Kaurna Eagles were there for a few years too.

Old Ignatians are now a lease holder, they weren't previously

I got there in 2019, and that's what I was told.

They have had a few homes over the years, but KRO, or "Railways" Oval has been it for quite some time.

It WAS a run down dump though

They were terrible facilities.

Mitchell Park, Mitcham, CBC levels of bad.

At least Old Iggies got an upgrade. Love that oval now.

Been some wonderful upgrades over the years.

Rostrevor OC, Old Ignatians, Sacred Heart OC (Senior School), Athelstone.

I haven't been into the new Unley, Golden Grove facilities (did games there while it was redeveloped)

And Im undecided on my thoughts for Payneham or Broadview. Better than what it was, but not as good as it could be. Payneham probably the better of the two.

Still have to have the postgame at The Bath Hotel, I hate that place.
Is there a function area there for their post match events? I liked areas around the bar and beer garden, but I dont think that'd be suitable for a post game drinks.

Alma has upstairs, arkaba has upstairs, there's places like these which work. But I dont feel the Bath does.

They've had a love/hate relationship with their school over the years

Has forced them to be nomadic

No, it's loud, crowded and rubbish.

Iggies have been a lease holder there well before the redevelopment, they didn't go chasing it due to the redevelopment
Happy to stand corrected but my understanding is that it was an Adelaide High School facility

Was the home ground of AHOS during summer. They didn't have football teams so it was let out to an assortment of football clubs over the years for winter, often two different club's "3rd teams" who alternated.

St Ignatius were the most recent sub-leaser and that history put them at the front of the queue when the redevelopment happened and they piggy-backed on. "Shrewd business" from some of their committee members - this is from their A Grade captain at the time

That could be the case, and I wouldn't say shrew business..... more "here's a blank cheque, you write down a number and we'll pay it"

They were desperate to stay put where they were, and thought it would be a huge benefit in terms of recruiting etc. Hasn't really worked out that way, though they did make it to D1 for a couple years without a great deal of ex-SANFL talent. Coming from a country footy background it took a while to get used to the setup they had both in terms of facilities and also how they run their post game.

Had a super strong women's program for a number of years that's also suffered a bit in the last couple. They get 2 or 3 games on KRO a year.

I did a preseason with North Adelaide many years ago. We’d jog to Fitzroy Footy Club to train with balls. And even then, I reckon we did drills on the vacant grass near the oval, we didn’t train on Fitzroy itself.

Just spitballing here, but a $50k-$100k fee would be huge for most SANFL clubs and should be pocket change for CA to get an oval that matches the crowd and prestige of the event.

Off topic, but the games I played against Old Iggies was at their school oval. What happened there?
