This seems to be the earliest mention of it. Looks like Tom Morris got some inside word from Hawks after Mitchell's presence was confirmed in WA.

"SEN Sportsday WA host Peter Vlahos first reported Mitchell’s presence in Perth on Monday afternoon and SEN regular Tom Morris has since confirmed the meeting."

Vlahos had no idea what Sam was doing in Perth and who he was meeting. He went out on a limb and said it was to probably meet with Harley.

He would be lucky to get 800k for 4 yrs from a club.
If his form doesn't hold he may end up staying at eagles at whatever the offer they gave him. Will need someone like Sam to take a punt on him and any contract will have triggers for yrs 5+ onwards.

Band 1 compo is looking risky ATM based on current projections.

Sounds like Oscar desperately wants to stay at WCE and is trying to get them to up their offer of the back of whatever the Hawks have offered. Will WCE cave or go for the potential compensation.

Surely it partly has to do with whatever their view is on Harley Reid's future at the club. If you think you'll lose Reid, maybe you're more comfortable with the full prolonged rebuild and getting as many picks as quickly as you can. Whereas having Reid longterm means established players in their prime years are more valuable to you.

Of course he wants to stay because he's a WA kid but he also wants to guarantee his cash because of the issue with his knee and the Eagles don't want to stump it up.

Hawks offer band 1.

Then they trade Carltons 1st and their F1 for Reid.

West Coast out: Allen and Reid

West Coast in: #1, #3 and future #1.

West coast aren't trading this year regardless of offer.

They will match anything that's not band club so any other club will inflate the offer to make it band 1. It's the Ben mckay thing.

So whimp out. Don't front up and just do some PR spin.

Media would call that out for what it would have be seen as. Weak.

As I said no win situation for club nor player.

Doing the presser only invites more attention. No comment would absolutely have been the best call.

Oscar & Sam had a great coffee and meeting and alot was discussed
Sam asked what Oscar wanted and he said wants to stay at the eagles and get a 6 year deal
Sam then asked what if we offer you 6 years at $5 mil would you consider that and Oscar said yes but my prefference is to stay an eagle. Sam then said well lets make that offer and if the eagles match then you can stay if not then ill be happy to have you at the hawks.

Oscar - Sounds like a plan

Just highlights that Mitchell and the Hawks are harder workers than most other clubs and proactive with their recruiting strategy which is working..

Amon
Barrass
Battle
Meek
Impey
D'Ambrosio
Scrimshaw
Ginnivan
They are doing exceptionally well in the trading and drafting departments
I think Newcombe is just as capable as Hardley Read and Allen is too slow and broken to fit in with their fast ball movement.
Allen would be a better fit for Essendon .
Carlton should trade McKay , Gov and a few others and push hard for Read

Impey and Scrimshaw were under Clarko. I can throw up a couple of other clubs that have just as impressive a list of recruits if not more too (cats, Lions for example).

Clearly they have done good recruiting recently, but I’d just say the reason why it looks like they are working harder is just how public it has been. That’s largely not their fault, this stuff is just reported earlier and earlier because people eat it up.

Involving the players families and partners is something I can remember David Noble talking about when he was still GM of footy at the Lions. It was probably something they did later in the year than the hawks are now, but I think all recruiting activities have moved earlier and earlier as a whole.

Heavy dose of luck involved in losing out on Ben McKay and Ratugolea too.

None of this is to criticise the hawks, I think it works - but I don’t buy that they are revolutionising things.

So it sounds like another tom barrass situation 2.0. Back in 2023 speaking about extension, gets injured, new management take over and reduce money and years.

Goes out and assesses his options, now WCE play the victim card again like they did with barrass.

This may be the biggest stuff in in a while, do they think Harley will be watching and going, yeah this is a club I see that treats their players well and want to win.

Surely Allen leaves this year and reid next year.

I'm just saying Hawks have had a good run with recruitment with this current playing squad.

Neale, Daniher, Dunkley won your mob a flag.

Cameron, Dangerfield same for the Cats.

But other clubs like the Swans and Eagles have been absolutely atrocious in recruitment for the last 5 years.

That Mitchell and his not-so-secret recruiting weapon and wife Lyndall met Allen and McNabb in a private house did not prevent the incident being exposed after an airport sighting.

Met at a private house? Who leaked it and what’s the issue again?

you do realize circumstances change and if oscar allen do arrive, then lewis circumstance would change.
They are very similar players. Same age, similar stats.

Lewis' career averages are a little higher, Allen is more durable.

I mentioned on the Hawks board that getting Allen as a FA and then trading Lewis for picks is good business. But its brutal.

Noone is trading any usable pick for Lewis until he plays a full season.

No one is trading any significant picks for Lewis with his injury history.
