Any word on split times? Looked like Beer ran a good opening leg, Pasquali held her own and Pollard ran well and stormed home. 2nd girl who’s name I’ve forgotten off the top of my head maybe the slowest, but again without split times it’s hard to judge. That was just the naked eye.

Drummond for future reference, if you go to the official World Athletics site for any competition and then via the Time Table link, click on result for any particular event, the page will look like the following graphic cut and pasted below.

There are 2 symbols to the right of Official Result, the first one that looks like an eye, will open the pdf I posted above, into the next tab in your browser, and the downward pointing arrow will download the pdf to your hard drive.

The Gout Spotlight special in full.

I love Di Sheppard's attitude - ".....it's not might, its like when. We don't do might, it's when." And Bruce raises an eyebrow to that. She says that as part of a cut away piece around 1.40 into the video and they show the fuller part of her interview with Bruce, including that bit again, later in the video.

She is a hard taskmaster, but I wonder if she will adjust as Gout gets older especially around 21 and is an adult. If she doesn't, I can see some big push back as his life changes and other priorities enter his life.

Sydney won hosting rights on 23rd September 1993, well early morning of the 24th in Sydney, and the Olympics opening ceremony was 15 September 2000. No way would an interview and a show like this, have been done 7 years from the Sydney games with a future Australian athlete/Olympian.

Yes Brisbane like LA gets almost 11 years to prepare for their games and not the standard 7 year, but there was no one on the horizon just before or just after the Sydney bid was won, that you would have done a show like this and would have talked about going to the next Olympics and maybe winning there, but winning at the home Olympics, and not 1 but 2 events. Its extraordinary.

Thorpe came onto the scene as a 15 year old at the world swimming championships in Perth in January 1998 winning the 400m. But swimmers winning Olympic gold as teenagers is common. He was a special talent that helped change and improve the sport. Will Gout walk in his footsteps?

I can understand it's in the interests of Gout (sponsorship) for Di & Manager James to talk him up massively, but when I watched the special, I kept thinking "whatever happened to 'under-promise and over-deliver' (a sales mantra)".

Of course, getting a cut of Gout's income, it's in their interests as well.

Anyway, he should win easily in Melbourne on Saturday. He only has domestic competitors in his field, so whether he runs fast or slow, he will win by a mile and kids and adults alike can go wild.

Will be a bunch of Brisbane 2032 news coming out today with the release of the 100-day review into venues.

Some interesting stuff being leaked in the last few days:
  • 60K+ stadium at Victoria Park in Brisbane's inner north
  • Dedicated swimming venue also at Victoria Park centred around current Centenary Aquatic Centre
  • "Brisbane Live" which was to host swimming and water polo, likely to be built under a private/public partnership (i.e. LiveNation $$$) across the road from the Gabba.
  • Hockey won't be be at Ballymore (the traditional home of rugby in Brisbane). Moving to the Gold Coast.
  • Basketball prelims to Gold Coast, Finals at Boondall Entertainment Centre
  • Rowing to Rockhampton
  • Sailing to North Queensland (Whitsundays?)
Looks like a big push to "regionalise" the Games.

I cant find what time the 100m is at the Maurie plant, it's not listed in timetable that I can see, does anyone know? Lachie Kennedy said he was running the 100 and 200 but I can not find it

I found it 6.12 but its not listed in the timetable, weird

It's because the MAIN meet (Continental Tour Gold) doesn't have a 100m event. The 'pre-meet' (regarded as a warm-up, Continental Tour Bronze event) has the 100m in the programme.

BRONZE - https://meets.rosterathletics.com/public/competitions/details/schedule?id=25951

GOLD - https://meets.rosterathletics.com/public/competitions/details/schedule?id=25838

As far as I know only the Gold bit will be broadcast live on 7 (though they may show highlights from earlier events).

7's coverage starts at 7pm AEDT so the "minor" events are on before that.

Tonight's Maurie Plant meet in Melbourne is officially a sell-out and the 12,000 strong crowd should add a great atmosphere.

Sadly the weather is cooler than was expected earlier in the week and temperatures of 18/19 during the meet won't be too great for sprinters.

Anyway can't wait.

A couple of PBs to top 2 in the women's 400m. Beer ran in Nanjing in the world indoors last weekend. She didn't run the individual 400m just the relay where Oz won bronze.

Conditions aren't great for sprints at Lakeside (they rarely are - thanks for nothing Eddie McGuire). Distance runners will he happy if those gusts of wind off the lake/coast stay low though.

But it's still great to see an Australian athletics meet on prime-time TV. First time in over a quarter of a century. Hope it continues.

Geez Kennedy is impressive. Ever since I saw him run live in the flesh at the Perth Track Classic, where he missed his start by a bit, and still ran a 10.03, he has run bloody well.

He ran 10.17 into a 1.1m wind, in the only the Bronze ranked final, still one of his fastest 100's, equal top 5, and then knocks almost 0.70 seconds off his 200m PB from 20.93 down to 20.26 was great. He got his usual great start and ran that bend beautifully.

Says he will do the double in Perth, so I will make sure I get to both days of Nationals to see him run and Gout as well pushing each other.

If you haven't picked up, the light tan elastoplast bandage on his left bicep, think its the left, he is a type 1 diabetic and he straps his CGM - Continuous Glucose Monitor - so he can watch his blood sugar levels as he warms up for his races.

“ Diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes as a 15-year-old, Kennedy races with a bandage covering his CGM (continuous glucose monitor), but is quick to play down the condition’s impact on his performance. A lot of people have it worse than me. I have a great endocrinologist, my Mum and Dad are all over it and I’ve never had an emergency. The technology is just so good,” Kennedy says.

And Gout ran his 4th best legal time and got pushed and had to run in the cool/cold of Melbourne weather not the usual hot Queensland sun. This is good for him and despite all the hype, can't be viewed as a failure. He races men and has to deal with a big crowd by his standards and all the eyeballs and media on him. Nationals in Perth should be a lot warmer than Melbourne was.

With Lachie being 21, Gout 17, Caleb Law 21, Peyton Craig 20, Claudia Hollingsworth 19, Torrie Lewis 20, Cam Meyers 18 ( who ran brilliantly out front to win the John Landy 1500m), and Ky Robinson 22 making his big break thru in Nanjing last week in the 200m and ran well to win the 5000m in a PB, there are lots of top juniors coming thru to go with the regular medal winners and top 8 placing athletes, who are in that 27 to 29 year age group ie Olyslagers, Patterson, Kennedy, Hull, Denny, Marschall, Little, Montag, etc.

It was a good meet even though Lakeside is not a good stadium - as I often say 'thanks for ****ing the sport over Eddie McGuire') - but some good performances - especially Lachie K.

I was sitting in the stand on the back straight, it felt like 10 deg with that breeze ❄️
Its been between 35 and 40 degrees the last 5 days or so in Perth and another week of 30+ to come.

Even though daylight savings ends before the Nationals starts, the last event each night will be between 6pm and 7pm Perth time for 7's coverage, so it should be nice and warm for the sprint athletes. Not so good for the middle and longer distance runners.

Horrible coverage last night by Channel 7. The amount of barracking for their current favourite athletes was, unprofessional, at best. McAvaney with statements like "It's not the result we wanted.." I'll get my coverage elsewhere if that is the sort of garbage 7 is going to serve up.

I'll get my coverage elsewhere

lol - where is 'elsewhere'?

First one-day track meet in Australia shown on national TV in over a quarter of a century.

Of course they are talking up certain athletes - usually only the ones the public might have heard of.

They're not gonna be talking up those that only nerds like me have ever heard of.

I don't particularly care if I don't see national T&F live on FTA. I'd rather not watch at all than endure the crap that was served up last night.

I am not interested in hearing the hyping up of athletes that they have a commercial interest in promoting.

That made me frustrated. Kennedy, fresh off narrowly missing gold representing Australia, beats Gout but, “it’s not the result we wanted”. Poor choice of words. The hype about Gout is quickly getting out of control. Let the kid develop.

My two highlights were Hollingsworth in the 1500, and Cam Myers. I think Claudia will settle into the 1500m as her pet event, she kinda gave that impression during her interview. Myers was simply superb from start to finish. Ky Robinson was also brilliant.

My disappointment was Torrie Lewis. Great off the blocks then went backwards. What’s the go? Thought she’d be in a great position with all that training in the Netherlands but she looked so sluggish. Long season ahead I suppose.

Agree with your highlights. Sluggish, I think is the best description one could apply to Lewis. Really thought Kennedy's effort cannot be understated. Big performance in China, then comes out and wins the 100m & 200m one week later.
Kennedy was truly brilliant. All eyes on Gout and he produces a run like that. Was so happy for him. Loved his post race interview, seems like such a genuine, happy guy.
