To stop any arguments I have calculated ( nah not really stole it out of the AFL Record Preview) the average age of each teams list. From now on I dont want to hear any squabbling

This list takes into account ages up until March 30 2006

Hawthorn- 22 yrs 151 days
Sydney - 22 yrs 207 days
Carlton- 22 yrs 260 days
Geelong- 22 yrs 298 days
Essendon- 22 yrs 305 days
Richmond - 22 yrs 313 days
C/wood- 22 yrs 349 days
West Coast-23 yrs 71 days
Pt Adelaide- 23 yrs 119 days
Kangaroos- 23 yrs 134 days
W/n Bulldogs - 23 yrs 138 days
Melbourne- 23 yrs 141 days
Fremantle- 23 yrs 202 days
St Kilda - 23 yrs 231 days
Adelaide- 23 yrs 343 days
Brisbane- 23 yrs 343 days

So there you go.... you can spin it anyway you want but there are the averages and youngest is Hawthorn* and Adelaide and Brisbane are the oldest

Calculating an average of the age of the starting 22 would be better, Sydney have a fair few young players because they drafted a ******** load low picks and rookies but none would get a game (or hardly any will) in their starting 22 so the averages are not accurate.. Let the squabbling recommence :)

Can someone pass some factual information to Dermott Brereton? He was chortling during yesterday's game that if the preseason comp was for 25 year olds and under, North couldn't field a team. Ho ho ho. What a tosser. How he keeps his job - the media one, not his other job as Hawthorn's lead cheergirl - beats me.

I believe we have 28 players below 25 years of age. We may struggle to field a side given that at this point in time of our development we are loaded up with KPP type players and not a lot of very young midfielders. We would be able to field a side but we do not have a balance of young players suitable for a football game and it is not the intention that you do.

Clubs are at different stages of development, some will be loaded with midfielders, others with KPPs, some may have a balanced group of youngs. Those with balance would win easily and it would not be much of a contest. A squad of 40 doesn't give you much room.

If that is the correct list, then how does that make Melbourne at 23 years and 141 days, the youngest when there are seven teams under 23 years? This is the footy geek list at the bottom of the page. St.Kilda has an older list than Collingwood, much more so without Buckley and Wakelin (?) today. St.Kilda is just about full-strength, so I think it will be interesting to see how they go later.

This infatuation with having a young list is getting beyond ridiculous.

The aim of every club would be to have a mature & experienced list.
They are the teams who more often than not win the premierships.

Once you bottom out and "rebuild", it is very hard to get that average age and experience back up.

Yep, my numbers are different to the footy record because I left rookies out.

All the numbers are correct just measuring different things. :thumbsu:

Essendon's best 22 IMO:
B: Welsh (22) Fletcher (30.5) McVeigh (25)
HB: McPhee (24) Bradley (20) Solomon (26)
C: Winderlich (21) J.Johnson (28) Dyson (20.5)
HF:Hird (33) Lucas (28) Monfries (19)
F: M.Johnson (27.5) Lloyd (27.5) Lovett (23)
Rucks: Hille (24.5) Stanton (19.5) Camporeale (30.5)
Bench: Laycock (21) Peverill (25.5) N.Lovett-Murray (23) Watson (21)

Average age approximatly = 24.5

3 things.

How is Wayne Carey going?

Get over 1978 - we did when we beat you.

At seasons end you can give up your 1st and 2nd round draft picks for Barker & Matthew Ball. That way we can raise the IQ of both clubs.

Cheers

Don't do lists at 1 AM! ;) Your 'old' mob played well earlier I see. Did Collingwood field the youngest side this weekend? They may very well have when four key players in between the ages of 28-33 did not play. Nathan Buckley, James Clement, Scott Burns and Shane Wakelin would have lowered Collingwood's average age a lot, and it was impressive to beat St.Kilda without them.
