The filo father and son would be close to a 1000 senior games of country footy, not sure anyone would get close to that
The quality of the duo is the incredible part, unmatched outside the league father son combinations. They are the Abletts of country football, dare I say with more impressive resumes.

The region needs an umpire training academy, and some handsome funding.
Rovers were hanging on too, it wasn’t one way traffic there.

The umpires didn’t cause marks to be dropped that should have been taken, nor did they have a hand in a couple of Wang players regularly getting out on their own and tearing down the outer side with a numbers advantage.

It was a good game.

Most players these days don’t give a damn about their club stripes let alone the league. State of origin and representative football was always funded on player passion, that’s long gone. With no buy in or genuine care it loses all meaning.
Instead of wasting time and money on interleague egos invest it in umpire training. Or are we just bitching and not really give a shit about umpires.

Listen here, I’ve been advocating for this for quite some time. Take note, some reserves grade umpires are filtering in to the senior ranks in the surrounding leagues because of the shortage. The big league needs to fund a recruiting campaign with insensitive’s to grab a whistle. There’s 2-3 very good umpires getting about, then it drops off. A good umpire doesn’t influence a game.

Bull dust, the players cop more than the umpires. You obviously weren’t around the O&K thirty years ago, I had to help escort umpires home on more than one occasion. Nowadays, if you sigh within five feet it’s an upfield free kick.
Thirty years ago?… and next breath you’re talking about umpire dissent ‘if a player sighs’.

You came on here and blamed the umpires for costing Rovers the game, bullshit they did. For a bloke who has to be restrained from throwing a few in the crowd I’d imagine you’d let plenty rip at the umpires.

Maybe wire yourself up to the umpires and you can award the frees from the balcony. 🤣🤣🤣

If the big league can fund a seperate competition that runs at a loss they can cough up some dollars for country football. It’s a disgrace where they’d rather put their money.
Going to have to swallow some pride and agree with you here, a lack of fresh younger umpires who can keep up with the game becoming a real issue. Does anybody know what a central ump gets paid for an O & M game?

Umpired for 5 years after playing. Enjoyed it but it is a lonely gig. Nobody really wants to know you - in the car and home.

Sorry, I was directing my response at motor mouth Larry.

I club umpired for around 10 years and enjoyed it as well until family came first as the kids grew up. Only once did I feel that I should skip the seniors after a line ball decision three seconds before the final siren in the ressies meant the match was drawn.

Should be afl paid for and $650 to umpire senior footy to get ex players interested
$204,750 per week if they allowed it for the top 21 leagues in the state including the major 6 leagues in metro. Obviously not accounting for some district leagues and anything lower than Div 1 or premier in metro.
Multiply that by an average of 18 rounds a season equates to $3,685,500 per year.
Then have to factor in finals

Wouldn't even by the median pay packet of a player would it? If you don't invest in umpires we have no game, or we get guys that aren't up to the task

Myrtleford to thump the Raiders. Wangaratta to let Darryn know Corowa aren’t even close, 8 goals. Lavington in a tussle over Wodonga. Albury comfortably over Yarrawonga. Rovers to bounce back and let NA know it’s going to be a long season, there’s still steam coming from our ears and a young cocky side will cop the brunt of it.
