Bye: Newcastle

Dogs absolutely robbed of a try right on half time.
Didn't prove too costly, though, did it? Canterbury certainly had the attitude of champions, but whether they've got the roster for the long haul, I'm not so sure. The Sharks must have gone into the game with plenty of confidence, but they just fell a bit short in every department. Hynes and Trindall weren't terrible by any means, but were still out-played by the Dogs' halves.

At 6-8 it was fairly costly. What happened after that didn't change the fact at the time.

Not sure about the lack of roster you mentioned. To do what they did to comp heavyweights without Kikau, Burton and Kiraz was a bit of a surprise. Time will tell, but last night was a good sign for them.

Burton's replacement was a big bonus for the Dogs. And they were very good. I'm just not quite convinced they'll be toppling the heavyweights at the business end of the season. But we'll see.

Cronulla really are useless aren't they. They'll do just enough to get to the finals comfortably and then fold like a deck of cards as per usual.

Just not sure what people expected, their spine is average to woeful, and they go out and pay for a prop when they already had them

Just look at their spine

Kennedy- fine but if he's more than a 7/10 on a good week you are kidding yourself
McIness- solid as anything tackles like nothing before but he's no Yeo/Murray for sure.
Hynes- don't make me laugh, worst million dollar half you'll see and that includes a few bad ones
Trindall- fine but he's just solid
Brailey- good 9, but he's no Grant, Reed, etc

Surely they realised you need quality to win games when it counts, you are not winning when it counts, otherwise it's the old finish 4-8 then be bundled out against the first good side.

They did need a better quality prop. They lost Hunt as well, AFB was definitely a good pick up.

I agree though, that was my point. It'll be good enough to get them in the finals comfortably but it'll be the inevitable meek finish.

My only issue is though, could they have paid Luai the same amount? Did they even try?

Possibly but then you're going to have the same issue Newcastle will next season. Some nice playmakers with no one going forward to help.

I also don't think it's great having 2 x $1million (+) players in the same team, I'm not convinced it's conducive to winning a premiership.

Guess we'll find out this year with Munster/Hughes.

I’d be looking at moving Hynes on still can’t believe they are letting Atkinson go

I missed yesterday's game, but very surprised Benji is complaining about the game winning penalty when he should be counting his blessings nobody got binned or sent off. (Luai included in that)

The game winning penalty was soft but it was there. However their fullback can’t tackle and cost them 6 points.

He went down very easily and then bounced up and took the kick without going off for HIA too.

Fogarty kicked the goal though. HIA is determined by the independent doctor.

I f**king hate myself for saying this but the wildcard is Brisbane and it’s not for any reason other than Payne Haas. I think a lot of people look at them and their strike power and think it’s about having good players to put it all together off their halves. Of course that helps but to me Haas and Carrigan are such a good duo, I just think if you have a backline that’s moderately functional, those two will get any team into positions to score points and build momentum week after week
Agree. Also have a feeling Walsh has grown up. Some plays he set-up rather than being the flashy star impressed me.

Not comparing them but it reminded me of the feeling I had watching a young JT.

And I detest Qld too.

Goes beyond this one game, though, doesn't it? Hynes may be no Cleary (who is?) but he is still a perfectly fine 7 by any sensible standard, and yet you'd never think so if you got your opinions from this forum. I could (and have) said similar about Mitch Moses, another player who gets little love here. Whether this is more about the clubs than the players, I have no idea.

Cleary >>> Moses >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Hynes.

Moses is much closer to Cleary than most would care to admit. He just doesn't have the system/players that Cleary has the luxury of being surrounded with.

He came across as such a little bitch in that presser as well.

"Oh I don't want to talk about it", while absolutely making sure the next questions were specifically about it.

I'm actually in full agreement with you there, Jatz. I'm just saying, Hynes is no mug, but of course he wouldn't replace Cleary or Moses in anyone's side, except perhaps the most rabid Sharks fan.
