Another thing I forgot to mention which allowed me to notice by arriving early.
The boys first came out and their kicking for goal practice involved a lot of sets HB chains with run and attack towards the goals for the mids and the FWDS were doing lots of leading then taking set shots.
The second time they came out they were doing close inside repetitive drills with lots of physical aggression and talk .
The drills involved moving the ball fwd as they progressed through the chains . Watching them do their warm ups at Coburg earlier in the year today was way more active with voice aggression and skills even for the tall boys .Wheras at Coburg it was more stagnant goal kicking.
I also loved seeing Elton Soldo McBean and Chol having stints in the ruck and fwd line and the way they were rotated and managed. Chol played down back for the first 45min which I reckon didn't do much , but he was exciting and more involved when moved fwd and on the ball.
As I said earlier the team was really well balanced yesterday, but it was impressive to see the builds of Butler Lennon CMoore and Elton.
CEllis needs to muscle up more as he's way to light for the game.
He has the class , but strength and speed need massive work over the Summer .
Soldo still is a massive project , but has come a long way since playing TAC at Preston. McBean to me needs to do more work as ruckman bc he has a great leap and good agility around the ground. Adding This string to his bow could save his afl career
Adding to what DH said a few weeks ago ,"if we can't make the 8 ,then we will at least reshape it";)

Looking at the stats looks as though Soldo Rucked most of the game. Good effort to have basically the same number of hit outs as Wood and his side kick. No way is he ready for senior action yet, but you'd have to think he's shown enough to be on the rookie list ahain next year.

Re Elton what's his tank like ? I know he's a good athlete but does he have the aerobic capacity to play that 3rd tall role pushing well up the ground?

Soldo has actually impressed me over the past few weeks, i think there is plenty to work with there.

I also think a lot of people went to early on elton calling him a dud, he has some seriously good marking ability, hes just been thrown around the ground and hes lost confidence because of it. I imagine at the moment his tank wouldnt be great because of the games he has missed, but id love to see him get a game or two in the seniors to end the year. Only as a forward though, even if his kicking is shit.

Soldo is getting better .His ruck work and contested work is terrific, but he needs to improve his around the ground work imo.
I definitely think he deserves at least 2 more years bc his improvement in the last 18 months has been at a high rate.
Elton has no issues with his tank and is ready to be the upgrade for TV

So Elton as a defender is being scrapped now? I'm glad he is coming on as a forward. Definitely a need atm
we need another fwd in case Vickery goes (likely) & maybe McBean as well. Elton is contracted for next yr & is back up at least. also the fact McKenzie is gone too.

The thing I've noticed about soldo the last 4 weeks is he is jumping at every center square ball up. His timing has improved out of site. As a Ruck if you can't time your leap then you will never get good tap outs. Also he is starting to do the tap over the back to the running mid at boundary throw ins..another really solid pre season hopefully under the tutelage of his uncle Ivan
(Who i hope will be our new ruck coach. ).
Young ivan will blossom. 2018 will be his year. With the Chol as his partner

Agreed, Forward or bust.
The question has to be asked why it has taken so long.
He is just another in a long list of players who have been played out of position.
Elton was drafted as a fwd who could ruck a bit.Yet once again those in charge have decided they know better and try and turn him into something he is not.
It is a disgrace what has happened at the club over the last 8 or 9 seasons.
You know what if they think they need a kpd go out and draft one!!!! how hard is it to fathom.
If they think they need a kpf you guessed it go and drafdt one instead trying to turn a defender or ruckman into one.
People wonder why Hardwick and Development is heavily criticised. What has happened borders on stupidity.

How many VFL games do you go to? Elton has spent plenty of time down forward and on the odd occasion when he actually got on the end of a few, his kicking for goal is up there with the worst I have seen. It was definitely worth exploring his use somewhere else on the ground. He has missed so many games with injury, he hasn't really had a proper run at any kind of meaningful role in any position but with McBean, McKenzie, Chol etc also vying for spots in the forward line, someone had to go back.

Feel free to pot the club at every opportunity but you are wrong on this one.

Why does CEllis have a * next to his name?

Just on Soldo, when those of us who did the PRO tour for the Player Sponsorship, it was the players day off. Soldo, however, was doing weights in the gym. He was there when we got there, and was still there about 45 minutes later when the tours started. Shows this kid has the attitude to make it. Adding in extra training/weights sessions on his day off indicates he is giving himself every chance of making it.

Classed as Cat B Rookie so won't take another player's place. Has come on in leaps and bounds in the last month,

appears from everybody's appraisal he's improved heaps. Not as though we have any other young developing ruckmen on the list he's competing with for a spot. He'll end up a big unit too I reckon lost all that puppy fat over preseason which will eventually get replaced with muscle

I would love so much for Soldo to become a great player
I see him like a Mumford type if he can get his body similar. Just a hard, tough and solid ruck

Then pair him with someone like Chol who offers that athletic, maneuverable NicNat type and you have a really dominant ruck combo

3-5 years away at least
