I didn't see anything wrong with their current logo.
Also just because it's a sports team doesn't mean you have to make your logo looking intimidating, This is AFL not NFL, We've got Blues, Cats, Saints, Swans all of which aren't intimidating mascots, BUT the idea is the team worries about looking intimidating.

You know what's brilliant about that logo. The fact that on the second line they decided that two additional letters would just throw the whole thing out of whack.

Then they go and squeeze the full stop in meaning that they were one single character from the full name. Love it.
