And yet when Adelaide tried to ensure Brad Crouch free agency compensation would be tier one that was denied by the AFL.

This is not a fair competition..
The Brad Crouch situation was timed badly just like the Patrick Dangerfield free agency situation.

Crows got ripped off in the Patrick Dangerfield free agency/ trade.

Cats got a bargain for what he has produced at the cats. Crows only got picks 10, 28 and Dean Gore.

Crows at a minimum should of got a couple of 1st rounders for him.

As for Brad Crouch, no way was he worth top 5 compo pick. Had he been a free agent in 2019, crows would of got pick 8-10 as a compo pick. That would be slightly overs but fair.

That's not what the rules are though. The compensation is based on ladder position, and because Adelaide finished last in 2020 they rejected it.
Why should they reject based on ladder position when it's supposed to be salary?
Why in 2019 with the exact same salary is Brad Crouch compo acceptable to be pick 8, but one year later the rules change?

Didn’t take Clarko long to give up on North’s list.

North going nowhere when their coach doesn’t even want to do the hard yards to improve the club. Hand outs aren’t the panacea he hopes they will be.

He should maybe try coaching the team before begging for a handout.

He's probably just going with what he knows works from his experience at Hawthorn and their decades of handouts.

North looking likely to receive pick 2 as compo for McKay on top of their natural pick 1.
Also have an application pending for access to Sanders.
There’s nothing out of the ordinary here, just North receiving what the system entitles them to.
Can’t see why hawks supporters are so triggered here …
Triggered by not seeing how he is worth 800k is all

May aswell give North the first 10 picks of the draft, 7 of the 10 will probably leave after the first 3 years anyway. If they get pick 2 for Ben McKay they’d have to be the luckiest club to ever play in the AFL. Good on them if they do but that’s slightly kissed 🤣

Have to go back 18 years since hawthorn last received anything. Plus that was under a different system.

Since then we’ve lost a lot more than we gained from FA and the AFL in general.

Adelaide were going to take Luke Dunstans contract (as Geelong got approved) to ensure Saints upped the value to tier 1.
The AFL denied it.

Blatant Victorian corruption and it continues with Ben McKay getting North pick 2.
Absolute joke.

Crouch was two years older and had just been busted for possession by the cops with someone the Crows dropped from their side cos of drug use. That probably dropped his value a bit.

Im glad you bring up inflation. If the figure was 800k/season, and the salary cap has increased since then, then should the mark for this year be closer to 850-900k/ season ??? .....
Nope. It was never 800k a season anyway.

Neutral fans, take your anti Clarko and North Melbourne bias and agenda aside and tell me what is factually incorrect by Clarko's statement here ?

If you don't think McKay is worth band 1 compo (and I will admit he isn't) that is fair enough, but Clarko and North's argument is coming from a credible position of strength and credibility given the Gold Coast Sun legs ups.

Also fwiw; Clarko was directing his ire at Damian Barrett, essentially. Barrett has been in the media this week saying North don't deserve assistance.

Clarko's comments today were a not-so-thinly veiled retort to Barrett. He wasn't attacking the AFL or gold coast.

It's quite amazing that we're talking about the top ten looking like this:

Harley Reid
Jed Walter (GCA)
Daniel Curtin (NM PP)
Colby McKercher
Zane Duursma
Nick Watson
Ethan Read (GCA)
Ryley Sanders (NM NGA)

Nate Caddy
Jake Rogers (GCA)

We can't seriously want this.

Aren't North getting access to some random kid in Tas through NGAs which is an absolute rort? Poor old Clarko, hat in hand out for some welfare.

Vic clubs are welcome to come up here and set up and fund academies, but none of them want to do that. They just want to abolish academies and preserve structural advantages.

In this scenario pick 3 wouldn't be a priority pick, it would be legitimate free agency compensation.

And you can add to that

2022 AFL draft

Pick 2 - Ashcroft (father son)

2021 AFL draft

Pick 2 - Sam Darcy (father son)

Pick 4 - Nick Daicos (father son)

2020 AFL Draft

Pick 1 JUH (Academy)

Pick 5 Braeden Campbell (Academy)

Pick 9 Archie Perkins (Free Agency compo pick)

Every single year we are seeing the elite end of the draft being completely compromised.
