Really interesting to see where Geelong are kicking the ball going inside 50 here. Both their recent entries were to the open pocket. You're probably a better chance to score from there but you also open yourself up to being exposed on the rebound.

I think at this stage of the game we would be kicking to the pocket closest to the kicker, where there is greater congestion and if the ball comes to ground it likely goes out of bounds.

I cheered Danger nailing D'ambrosio tackle and then felt dirty the very next second.

Hawks vs Geelong brings out a kaleidoscope of conflicting emotions even for neutral fans.

Dropping the knees after collecting the footy should be prior and a free for htb regardless if tackled high.

That Watson high free towards was pitiful. Thankfully the footy gods were paying attention.
I remember Bailey did something like that on our Pies match. Slightly different as he more so lowered his whole torso while extending the neck.

Either way I really dislike seeing it happen wherever.

There was also a cats player today trying to showcase the 'holding' on him after he got rid of it. Ended up looking like he was doing a scissor kick as he really flipped... eugh

On the flip side you have players like Rowell and Dangerfield who will contort their body and lower the head aggressively to brute their way out of a tackle.

Sydney
Geelong
Port (may be if Carr is adventurous)
Fremantle (hailmary for JLo)
GWS (they have proven track record with getting Hogan right, wouldn't mind a punt if cheap)

And last but not least Hawks. They are pretty much throwing themselves at anything moving out there.

It's all speculation & everyone's opinion is just that, however from that list you put up there the only team I can see putting their hand up is Geelong, maybe GWS if they have a need (but do they?). For the others, I reckon the reward isn't worth the risk. Hope this story has a positive resolution.

This was shown in access (Damo/Lloyd) in AFL - after Hogan GWS are struggling to have an impact. If they can fix Jamarra and get him for a reasonable price, he could become that deep target for GWS while Cadman can develop at his own pace.

For real?

I'd say there's a fair chance Cadman can develop to AFL standard in a shorter time frame than Jamarra can be 'fixed', as you put it.

Not into Cadman hypotheticals though. You asked if GWS even need him and based on evidence so far, they struggle without Hogan. They need an effective second banana who can also be the main man when needed. Current forwards are not getting it done.

Jamarra kicked 35 in 2023, 43 in 2024 and was about to get to that next level before things went off rails. He's shown he can play and be effective though.

For people more up on tactics, why do teams leave / zone way off opposition players wide on the half back flank on a kick out. Often then is time for kicks to the back pocket and then on the HBF. The ball is the cleared way out of the attacking 50.
Is this to keep the opposition away from the middle of the ground? Or just good running from the other team? A bit of both?
Usually teams leave that kick free to try to lock up the next kick. A kick out from the middle can open up either side as well as the centre of the field. Going to the corner allows the defending team to focus on only half the field and most likely force them to go to a contest.

That url looks too dodgy to click.

I was listening to Adam Simpson on SEN this morning and he was talking about center bounce craft and tactics. Was a good listen.

I just copied the video link direct rather than the article combined

Chad Warner re-signs with Sydney

'Last Thursday, Moore was on the receiving end of a nasty collision against the Brisbane Lions, when Logan Morris pushed him into the path of Jeremy Howe, who was in a marking contest with Cam Rayner.'

Scum bag journalism on the AFL website after Morris was cleared by the MRO.
