The NFL gamepass subscription price went through the roof and quality dropped significantly when DAZN bought the rights a couple of years ago so I’m not expecting too many positives from this
That's exactly what I recall too. Prices will go up. Costs will be cut.

No doubt the Broncs will still be the most popular team in Brisbane/Queensland, but some of the advantages they once had may go away with this sale. Does anyone remember a few years ago when it seemed like the Broncos would play every single Friday night? Being looked after from a scheduling persepective certainly helps in terms of growing your fanbase, coverage etc.

That time was a thing of beauty. Now we have to watch teams no one cares about. And Broncs don't get favourable coverage, look at the pile on with the Ezra Mam situation. Where was the same pile on for Addo-Carr a repeat offender and Sandon Smith? Even Trindall, who is most similar to Mam in terms of situation, got like one and half articles that weren't even that negative.

Depends on your perspective. I know quite a few NRL fans that weren't happy about the Broncos essentially owning the Friday night slot. It's great if you're a Broncos fan, but probably not so great for others. The prime time slots should really be preserved (mostly) for the top performing teams - that's the fairest way to do it e.g. Penrith v Melbourne on a Friday night would make a lot of sense for the NRL.

Mam does seem to be copping a fair bit more than those other examples you mentioned. I'm a little surprised with the carry on in that sense.

As I often say to Collingwood and Carlton supporters... Sometimes it's nice to be a big club. Other times it's... Not so nice.

The current contract with Foxtel and others runs through to 2031 so the new owners should take some time and observation to assess where it all sits in their overall business strategy and the ramifications of how they do what they would prefer to do.

Ultimately I wouldn't think it's good news for the cost and opportunity to watch your AFL team.

The Broncos part won't change - they're the biggest club. They're going to get the news, clicks, ad impressions, etc. It's like saying "will this now mean Collingwood won't get the most coverage in Melbourne?"
What might affect the NRL as a whole is the fact that they are yet to renew their broadcast contracts beyond 2027, while the AFL's will run until 2031. Indications are at the moment that DAZN will not be as generous a negotiator.

Shouldn't be a problem, the NRL sold themselves short on the last one, so should be no problem this time.

I think the difference will be that Amazon and Netflix are bound to bid. That's going to drive prices up regardless of who owns Fox Sports.

I have never heard of DANZ but i lead a sheltered life.
This article gave me a better idea.
Hopefully the Government ban the betting side of DANZ we have enough of them already.

DAZN, not DANZ, which they pronounce "Da-Zone" (eyeroll_emoji)

Bound to? I'm not sure either NRL or AFL would be all that desirable to those services given their limited international appeal. Yes they could well put bids in, but how much of one remains to be seen. They may not be enough to drive prices up. NRL/AFL makes more sense to DAZN because it's synergistic with their sports betting business, which they're likely to want to bring in to Australia to grab a slice of the action here.

Paramount+/Ten is a more realistic bidding option than Amazon or Netflix, I'd have thought.
