It's funny how severely overthought that draft was for GC.

They managed to take 1 substantial player leaving a King, Bailey and the Dangerfield like attributes of Rozee on the table.

How do any of that list management crew still have job?
I remember when Richmond took Reece Conca at pick 4 (hindsight was a mistake) but at the time they clearly went "he fits what we need". I wish more list managers had the balls to stick it rather than what Phantom Drafts and BigFooty Boards suggest.

Absolutely agree, the Suns list management is as poor as the GWS coaching of the last 10 years.

I find myself wondering why North was allowed to do this to itself.

They're completely dependant on handouts. What's going to be left after another year or 2 at the bottom?

Got lucky with JHF. 12 months earlier they burned pick 3 with generational key position talent on offer.

Is North the sort of club that can resist the raiders that will come for its players?

Nobel has taken over at a lower ebb than Fagan did. He may also be a very different guy but the impression is not one of calm control that North exudes. It was very different for the Lions (despite some beltings).

These scorched earth rebuilds basically don't work. By the time they come good the list changes again so much that the extent of the pain experienced really doesn't correlate to any benefit, whatsoever.

Will Brodie has exceptional awareness and decision making. Also hurts with his possessions - makes them all count. Reminded tonight of Jobe or Simon Black how in congestion they would get it out to the best option and the execution was spot on. Did what looked like a 30 metre handball at one point. Wish we got him but good on he and the Dockers for giving him that confidence.

We should be thankful they burned pick 3, otherwise we'd probably have him.

North not taking a single key defender last year is incredibly bizarre. They have McKay (very good but injury prone), Corr (27, not good and injury prone) and Walker (29 and injury prone) on their list as key defenders. Are they hoping one of CCJ, Comben or Edwards turns into one or something?

They also traded up to 21 or something to take Jez McLennan who I believe is yet to debut and while there are no out and out guns they missed out on there’s a hell of a lot of quality footballers.

I’m disappointed we fluffed a couple of picks there too. Moz was obviously an incredible talent but imagine if we picked McInerney.

Gotta wonder how phillips and powell don't make that side.
THIS

Horne-Francis, Tarryn Thomas, Davies-Uniacke, Phillips and Powell is as well balanced and uber talented a bunch of young mids that you will find in the league.

I would be playing them all together now (fitness permitting) and taking the lumps, and can't figure out why they aren't if they are getting pumped anyway

You still need some experienced mids sprinkled in to protect them, but Cunnington is out anyway and there aren't any senior midfielders I see that have the cache to stay in front of those guys by the end of the year.

2019 draft onwards for the Suns looks like they've turned a corner at least

Rowell, Anderson and Flanders all look like good inside mids to build around
Sharp looks like the prototype winger
Farrar has some tools off half back
Budarick and Rosas in the RD look like good investments

Haven't seen Hollands yet but he was basically the perfect player for us in 2020
Davies looks good as a mid/forward and Jeffries looks like a ridiculously talented medium forward from their academy pre-selections

Picked the big, athletic guy in Andrew and have stuck him at CHB this year
Ned Moyle in the MSD last year gives them a long term Witts replacement

They have the workings of a good young spine with Graham, Andrew, Moyle/Conroy and King. They'll get a reasonably early pick this year which I expect to be used on Scully or Lemmey. An inside group of Rowell, Anderson, Flanders, Miller and Davies has most of that area sorted, might need to look at a couple more outside mids as most of them apart from Sharp are better suited to the forward or back flanks.
