Its a joke.
Sam Marshall played for Sandringham in u16, played for Vic Metro un U16's. One year for the Lions academy in 2023 and then back to Sandy for this year and yet qualifies.
Just another young talent that would have been lost to the AFL world if not for the heroics of the Northern Academies!

I don't know what to think of Longmire. On one hand, he made 5 GF in a 14 season coaching career, on the other, he was absolutely smashed in 3 of them (2 of which they were minor premiers). Is also the coach who lost two premierships to teams outside top 4 (for the first times under the current finals system).

The Sunday Age had an article today about the high number - relatively - of public school boys making it to the AFL.

I don’t know why anybody is surprised given they dominate law, politics, judiciary, business etc etc. Why not sport too?

It’s amazing that if you give people great facilities, support and networks, they succeed more than those without. Wow!

It’s shocking to see how many public schools no longer prioritise sport like AFL in place of music and academics.

Years ago now but I went to quite a ‘prestigious’ public school in Perth and we never had AFL footy. Academics, drama and music were the priorities. Needless to say I didn’t have a great time! Our pathway was junior footy and whoever’s dad was coaching that decided his son and his mates should go to the district development squad - and further to colts. I played with a lot of guys who would rack up 40 touches or a bag of goals a week in 16s, but had no means of being able to develop their game.

The development pathway for boys outside of the private school/PSA program (rich families and regional scholarship kids) is extremely poor.

Juniors is often dominated by young kids on the small ground, and then they go missing once they have to play on a full size oval and essentially have to figure out fitness and developing their game on their own.

Always so much talk about ‘grassroots’ football, but what about feeding the actual young talent coming through with the tools and resources to take their game to the next level. Obviously takes a degree of solid parenting and qualities within the kid themselves, some you just can’t coach and it’s a hard age. There is a huge amount of young talent that gets lost as there are little to no means of development.

Ol Horse probably wanted a new extension with Coxy breathing down his neck and the club wasn't willing to do it so he said f*ck ya'll, I'm gone..just too bad he couldn't have done that two months ago when we were looking for a new coach

much happier with Mini than Coxy.
