Not sure about the call tbh. McSweeney still blunted the new ball a bit so party did his job.

Big ask for a 19 year old to face Bumrah with a new ball and even more of a big ask given he's been playing limited overs cricket mostly the last few weeks (that Australia A game was basically a limited overs game).

Pretty happy that Jye Richardson is back in the fold. If his career didn't coincide with the big three from NSW he could have had a fine Test career to date. Injury permitting, of course.
Nah, its just another Vic bias conspiracy to weaken the Scorchers. Inglis and Jhye carrying drinks for another month so they can't embarrass loser Big Bash teams

Was Mark Waugh a selector and heavy into the Thunder and whenever the Scorchers were about to play them one of the team were called to the national side to not play?
This is prime tinfoil stuff for you Taylor, and you Snuffaluphagus

Konstas will be an all format player. McSweeney may get another chance but he didn't play any shots. I'm no fan of Bazball nonsense but you can't play modern Test cricket scoring at 2 an over; Khawaja and McSweeney together was never going to work.

The Aussies love an ageing player nearly as much as Geelong do.
Common sense would be to let McSweeny finish the series. He values his wicket and I feel like runs will come. I get Khawaja will call time at the SCG but it's another case of putting sentiment before the next generation. I'd love to see McSweeny and the prodigy Konstas bat together at least once in Aussie conditions before the Ashes.

I hadn't considered that. Although in cricket isn't it called NSWbias?

Usman Khawaja BBL05 when the mighty thunder won the comp.

Ozzie was unstoppable and Mark Waugh a selector at the time in the commentary said Khawaja was hitting them as well as Viv Richards in his peak. He got like 5 x 100s and rarely got less then 50 but couldn't get in the white ball side.

If Khawaja was playing for Australia the Stars and Kevin Pietersen would have won the BBL and Mike Hussey wouldn't have got the fairytale finish he deserved

The biggest problem with Australian cricket atm is NSW ain't producing test cricketers.

When was the last time Victoria actually produced a quality test cricketer.

They have produced a lot of garbage in my time to name a few here

Jon Holland
Rob Quiney
John Hastings
Bryce McGain
Clint McKay

Yeah we have Vic media hacks in Mark Howard and Gerard Whateley says give the ball to a Victorian they will do a job.

Scott Boland is a quality Test cricketer. But he only gets a look in when a NSW-man is injured.

Kind of agree with most of this but the other ‘options’ for ‘specialist’ openers are about as likely to succeed at test level than thin air tbh - absolutely no chance IMO.

Literally the only option other than Konstas was to try a middle order player there and hope for the best. Konstas is 19 and wasn’t anywhere near it even six months ago - I can understand why the selectors didn’t go with him initially.

We’ll have to find a middle order batter that can bat anywhere unless a second Konstas appears within twelve months. McSweeney will be the first of few I reckon. I honestly fear they’ll turn into a similar situation as Australia trying to find a spinner post Shane Warne tbh - 5-6 years of absolute no hopers until we find the right guy.

And rightly so. He’s up against three very good quicks.

Since 2000 I’m only taking McGrath ahead of these three except maybe Ryan Harris (injured constantly) and Mitchell Johnson at his very best (outside of the 2013/2014 that wasn’t a lot).

I’ve said it before these three (and Smith) are why the Australian cricket has won stuff. Without them we win absolutely **** all.

Play Boland on a batting wicket and he’s not nearly as good as Starc, Hazlewood or Cummins. That’s the difference.

NSW bias has been a myth for 10+ years and anyone who says otherwise is absolutely clueless. The last ten years whoever has played for NSW in the test team are borderline generational at worst (unless you count Khawaja who’s Queensland now) - no other NSW player has got a look in. The only ‘NSW bias’ is them holding onto Warner too long - look at how sh**e openers are in Australia atm and you’ll see why they stood by him without BS conspiracy theories.

At home yes but abroad no.

He wasn't threatening in England in the 3 tests he played.

His a quality backup but his stats are skewed due to the lack of test cricket and those first 2 games against the Poms where he got 6/7 and destroyed the poms.

Since the ashes series in 21/22 his bowling average is 29. Which is good to have as a backup.

But overseas he has taken 7 wickets @ 53 and has struggled.

You bite everytime I bring up my NSW bias theories.

I'm not disputing that they're great bowlers. But when you've bowled 90% of our national team's deliveries as a collective, over a period of 10 years, there's a pretty good chance you'll have lots of wickets.

Their records do all the talking. I don’t need to say anything.

Who was the last NSW player to debut for Australia? Who was the last one that proved they weren’t up to it at test level?

He’s better than back up quality IMO. The problem is that Starc, Hazlewood and Cummins would all be considered borderline generational if they didn’t all come at once.

Boland’s age doesn’t help in this matter unfortunately but those three quicks and Nathan Lyon are going to be much harder to replace than a lot of people think. We’ll still beat Pakistan and Sri Lanka at home but good luck to the next generation beating India next time round.
