Is this the end of Smith?

When Cam Green eventually comes back, who else makes way? It's either Marsh, Smith or Labuschagne. Marsh is like-for like but he's had the best record over the last dozen Tests. Labuschagne has been awful for a while and today he was painful.

But by going opener Smith put a big red flag up that he's struggling in the mind and body, and by going back to four so quickly without a standout opening replacement there's a wailing red siren now too. I don't know if he makes the Ashes next year.

As poor as our batting is now, that would make us clearly worse.
No one coming through who's any good
Fair point, Mcsweeney did score 5 times the runs of smith and marnus combined though

And yet snicko, which can show a spike when the bat hits a pad or hits the ground, when a toe Stubbs the ground or if the batter breaks wind with no ability to discern between the various noises, and not even the ability to precisely assess if the ball passing the bat is aligned with the spike on the screen is part of the DRS.

The only doubt with hotspot was when the English batters were using the Teflon coated edges on their bats.
Snicko isolates certain frequencies, which is why the line is flat despite loads of noise from the crowd. For hyper nerds out there, it's the same frequencies as generated by a snare drum.

And no first class cricket soon for someone to emerge. Hit and giggle cricket has had a negative impact on technique and the ability of first class cricketers to play a continuous season.
Exactly!
Play half season, then have a 2 month break for a slogfest.
Then come back for the 2nd half, having to remove all recent programming.

Huge summer for Smith and Labuschahne. They will be given the next test after this BUT if they fail they’ll be dropped. We need to be like India and drop guns if they’re not performing ie.Ashwin and Jadeja.

Except India have Washington Sundar with a Test batting average of 59 and bowling average of 23 to replace one of them. If we dropped Smith and Labuschagne it would be Inglis and Webster maybe? Two debutantes with FC averages of 36 and 37.

Washington has played 6 matches so let’s see how he goes, but is very talented. I guess that’s what happens when you have 1.4B people to choose from. I’m a massive fan of Inglis, Webster and M.Short.
