Took advantage of some birthday offers and got Echoes for next to nothing, and being a Zelda fanboi and collector - have zero regrets getting it, but I'm going to try and hold off as well in the hope that Switch 2 is around the corner.

The game looks playable, but those constant FPS drops to 30 in the overworld look so jarring. No idea why they didn't lock to 30 fps.

Wasn't that bad on Links Awakening (just had a quick play now) but the videos I've seen of the overworld are enough to hold off.

I suspect the unlocked framerate is precisely for ease of backwards compatibility with the new console - they absolutely should put in a locked 30 mode though, the current performance simply isn't good enough.

You'd think they could have just had a detection in the game code so if it's run on the OG Switch then it runs in a locked 30 FPS.

I'm not even asking for that much - just let it be a capped/uncapped toggle and let the player decide. 60 with drops to 30 is just no good for anyone.

Surely we would see an announcement soon then?

I just saw that the new Pokemon game has been subject to a data breach, apparently it may be the launch game for the Switch 2.
There was nothing in the breach about the next Pokemon game being a launch game for Switch 2, just that it had been tested on both the current and next console.

I'm new to the switch, normally I play Xbox. Any decent controller I can get that's similar to Xbox? Struggling with the change
The switch pro controller is the best feeling controller of all consoles imo.

Ohh didn't know that they had a proper one, would be a lot easier than the joycon small buttons and sticks

This should actually let you use the Xbox controller on the Switch. Won't have the gyro in some games that may need it, in which case you can get this;

Sounds like a good options, thanks

Are the switches worth getting?

I am having a hard time of late enjoying gaming, usually I stick to sports games like NBA, NFL, WWE, Football FC and I have gotten to the point where I am completely worn out with those games. I did try COD Black Ops 6 and enjoy the zombies mode and part of the campaign but my problem is I might get 3 hours for an entire week to play and those times I do get to play I am tired from work/kids or try and catch up on sports or events so the 3 hours might turn into 30-60 mins and I really find it hard to be motivated to play COD or even games like STALKER or Indiana Jones that are free on game pass as I just don't have the time to commit and after a few weeks I have forgotten what I have done so far on the story anyway.

I was looking at the Christmas Deals on switches and I am tempted, I do love nostalgia games and I have a mini arcade set up in the shed for the old school games but Mario Kart appeals to me, the eldest of my kids will be another year away from semi understanding gaming like Mario so that tempts me to but are they worth it for being portable and the Mario games? I wouldn't bother with any of the titles that go on Xbox like NBA etc as I would just get there if I wanted to.

sounds like it would be good for you. it scratches the itch of a quick casual game perfectly. the online service / retro range is great. and yes it has a lot of great Mario games.

I would automatically say yes but its largely down to your own tastes

(boring story alert) Mario Kart was why I got my Switch, played it for agesssssssssss
But I also went down the rabbit hole with many other games.

The online service has built up quite a decent library of classic NES/SNES/GB/GBC/GBA/N64/SEGA titles

But my usage pattern varies, sometimes I don't touch it for months (too busy with life and/or gaming on other systems instead), but when I get going and use it more I love it. Couldn't sleep mid morning due to the hot weather days ago....... grabbed the Switch and played Tetris 99 while lying down :p

Its great for on the go or just moving around the house to different rooms in handheld or taking it outside on a worm summers night just kicking back. I pretty much only use it in handheld and I love it that way. Its perfect for nostalgia gaming but there is plenty of awesome variety of games you can play too. For example I love old school side scrolling games (or any side scrolling games for that matter) and I think the Switch is just perfect for those type of games. A lot of the Nintendo exclusive games just look gorgeous on it even in handheld mode. imo the Switch is a must if you are a true gamer.
