This was where I was at with it. The follow up question was whether it’s a sustainable performance against quality opposition? Saturday night was a fill your boots night with the bulk of the squad getting nourishment.

Like Wills I know he’s a big body that will crash in and give his all, but can he bring the standard of Saturday night across a 6 week block? He’ll hold his spot I assume, but like so many of these fringe types this week is a crossroads match where you need to frank the form.

Should get that Block of Games to find that out

He had a very good game last night. 24 disposals, 14 contested, 71 disp. efficiency, 344 metres gained. That is a very handy midfielders game.
The only knock on his game was his composure inside F50, but that will come...
Agree.
I was impressed by his game.
His seconds efforts were excellent.
As a hard inside Mid he was crushing it.

In his 14th AFL game, Long absolutely smashed his previous top disposal record of 13 with 24 on Saturday night. He also had seven tackles, 14 contested possessions and five clearances.

It def was a bit of an easier match so will have to wait for a block of games to properly judge where he’s at. Looked good at the coalface however.

He was good when he came on as the sub against GWS, though we all presumed everyone else had tired legs.

Great game from him on Saturday and I didn't realise he attended so many centre bounces. If he has a game like that again on Friday then I don't think we'll be seeing Mitchell again anytime soon.
Mitchell is pretty good bro 🤣

He doesnt use the ball well nor his height as he could and he is slow.
So that makes him pure inside mid competing with likes of Macrae, Mitchell and maybe even Pendles/Perryman.
Saturday was a great game from him and I thought he was ok against GWS when he came on.

He needs to be getting 22-30 touches every game and an option to nullify other beasts like Cripps and Tom Green or very least making space for our starts like Naicos to dominate.

Hope he continues to develop and can be that player he was Saturday every week,

Just on the fumble and what appeared a rushed kick (Dan kicked a goal off it).
At the time I said they’ve been told there’s not much time left and to go for it.
Sure enough, siren went 2 seconds after the next centre bounce.
TLDR, he follows instructions well 😊

It was an easier match because the blokes around the ball killed it and then everyone else worked their arses off to provide pressure to cause turnover. Long was a really central part of both of those things.

Our talls had much easier than normal opponents but Long was up against JHF, Wines and Rozee.

If Mitchell is up and about around finals time, I reckon he'll get the nod over long. We can still develop long during the year, even with Mitchell back in. It's a good problem to have
Titch is made for finals footy - not fast but tough, high pressure.
I'd be wrapped if he is right for finals (assuming we play this year).

VFL players usually get recruited a number of ways. A scout at a local game, coates league. Word of mouth etc. But I was chatting to the parents of one vfl train on tonight.
The club had never seen him play (plays for fitzroy VAFA), the kid has had some injuries, and came in with a hamstring issue (which is all good now)
He got an invitiation to train with coburg, but his next door neighbour put a word into the vfl recruiting to get this kid down to the club.

That next door neighbour you ask? Ned Long.

Sometimes its who you know.

This is an interesting listen regarding Long! I don’t buy into champion data though Hoyne makes a good point.

I take Champion Data with not much of a Grain of Salt

I go more on what I see

Last Week we talked like that about Perryman
