Thanks Justa, I am in an out of town for a lot of this season, other wise I would have eased your burden as tip collator for this year, It looks like you are still the one so here we go again - Until I forget!!!!!

ROUND 1-
Redland Bombers
- New Coach, may improve with a better list than last year.
Sydney Uni - Again a little unknown with lots of movement and some impressive young Academy Boys signed.
GWS Giants - Same again as last year, well coached very hard to beat when on song.
Sydney Swans - Look a little less potent than last year, but should be at their best without injuries at this time of year.
NT Thunder - Always again hard to topple at home at this time of year, super fit and strong list and seem to travel better every year.

The North East Australian Football League (NEAFL) wishes to advise the Round 1 fixture between the Brisbane Lions and Sydney Swans has been rescheduled due to an extreme wet weather event in South-East Queensland.

The match was originally scheduled for South Pine Sports Complex, but has now been relocated to Blacktown International Sportspark at 1.30pm on Saturday, April 1.

The Southport v Sydney University match at Fankhauser Reserve will go ahead as planned, subject to a ground inspection on Friday, March 31.

Please see the updated Round 1 fixture below.

With the start of the season upon us, it's time to start up a tipping competition.
We are going overseas for a few weeks next month and I can sort of keep it up to date from o/s.
I can do it if needed but I seem to do it a bit too often - is there another who will step up to the plate for us ? It's not a big job.

Justabaraker ,,
ok .. I will take on the scoreboard for the tipping comp whilst you are away ....

grimlock,

Would not be surprised if Bankstown Oval is wetter than South Pine Park, The rain is only going to get heavier in Sydney and looking at the NRL game tonight they will be swimming out there. Knee Jerk decisions made by administrators, Rain to clear by 10pm tonight with gusty 25 - 35 knot winds tomorrow - clear weekend ahead and No, I mean No AFL Footy in QLD apart from Lions V Bombers and Southport V Sydney Uni, this is a winter sport in Qld only to be played played in summer conditions. WTF _ The people involved making these decisions must not want to get their hair wet!!!!!!!!

Canberra

Giants
Thunder
Redlands

It's not too late for anyone else to join - if you do then you get the AWAY teams from Round 1

Went and watched southport v Syd uni on the weekend. Southport were good early and uni quite sluggish.

However in the second half superior fitness from uni was evident as they killed southport on the outside (Kerras for southport was close to BOG winning the inside ball and plenty of clearances, but unable to capitalise).

But also Southport allowed Bonney to get under their skin, he has been a mouthy annoying little prick since his days at Morningside but Southport lost their cool and undisciplined acts lead directly to about 3 goals to Uni. So Bonney well and truly won the day and is a good player.

southport have to be better or it's going to be a long season.

Interesting to see the Canberra result, I watched Redland in the preseason and was impressed so its obvious that Canberra are much improved and no easy beat this season

i watched Canberra v Redlands on the weekend. It was a good game, close pretty much all day and played in good spirit. Canberra have improved their list and there is better depth of talent. They are quick and play in a style like Footscray, which is a game plan well suited to the players they have. Bennet, Meline and Bruce have straightened them up and given strong targets up forward.
Importantly there is no cockiness or over confidence at the club that I see. they are aware of their strengthss and weaknesses and just want to compete as hard as possible for 4 quarters, something they couldnt do last season. I know they are fit. this was discussed at 3/4 time...that all the numbers were pointing to Canberra ie tackles, etc etc.
Note Canberra were 2 down halfway through the 2nd quarter.
Redlands were clearly much bigger heightwise but I can recall only 1 forward contested mark. Paine kicked 4 but I have to say 2 were from the most deplorable umpiring decisions imaginable! (see Allir Allir) Not Paines fault at all. he played very well but who'd be a backman?
I was not suprised that Canberra won. It will generate confidence.. they have improved and should not be taken lightly. That said, its only round 1!!
