Just quietly, there's a massive, and I mean massive silver lining to this, $$$$$$$$$$$$.

If the rumoured figures are to be believed we would have had to factor into the next 2 years of the salary cap his maximum earning potential which seems to be over 300k if he played 16 games or more a year.

300k or even if we hold off until the end of next season, 600k, to spend on a player, ooh baby.

Come on Matty..... 300k a year saved on a danger clone, 600k saved on a big injury prone ruck man, seedsmans 150-200k a year saved. Hmmm. I know what I'd be doing. 5 years at 1m for danger.

But did he have any history of hamstring issues prior to being drafted? (I don't recall any problems for Freeman... we knew about Schareburgs feet, and investigated them thoroughly and had a plan to deal with it, rightly or wrongly).

If this was a guy known for his athletic prowess, without any history of injuries, you can't predict that he would tear his hammy in game 1 of NAB football and then wouldn't recover for 2 years.

No, you can't. Dekka can't crystal ball that stuff. But results are results. Teams don't win premierships or get most determined ribbons because they have a talented injury list. If we spend a top 10 pick on a fizzer like Freeman, we waste a top 10 pick.

Spot on!
I always check what emma quayle predicts, shes a gun at knowing the lists and who pretty much wants who.
Got to give her credit shes really knowledgable
She would be the perfect footy nut wife to talk footy with at home with a few frothies

Nathan's dad was a sprinter of note, he may have represented Australia in hurdles. Don't quote me on that.

His dad believes the club have totally stuffed up his hamstring. He has also told the club about this numerous times since 2014.
F**king Collingwood - a sprinter and representative hurdler in their midst yet they get a bloody surgeon and team of sports scientists to sort out Nafe's dodgy hammy?? Should've just sent him home with dad and a set of staysharps.

I'm not sure you quite know how the PSD works. It's after the actual draft so they would still use their picks in the regular draft and take him in the PSD

Right, knew it existed just got them confused somehow -_-

But then what is your point?
What do you want the club to do - go back and retake that draft pick?

You can do all the scouting and preparation that you want - all you can do is take who you think is the best option at the time. You can't predict what will happen next, particularly if long-term injuries then come into the picture.

That is the nature of drafting. All you can do is do as much work as you can before making your decision and then hope for the best.

I could list failed top 10 picks for every single club... it happens, you deal with it and move on. For the most part, I think our drafting has been pretty good.

The Portland Trailblazer have taken 2 of the biggest howlers in draft history: Sam Bowie over Micheal Jordan, and Greg Oden over Kevin Durant.
Their front office and scouting department have always been consistent in their recollection of those picks: 100 times out of 100 they would make the same decision based on the information they had in front of them at the time... and most other clubs would've made the exact some decision in the same position.

By all reports, a real dog act by Freeman. Club invested so much into him and stood by him when he needed them too, and is leaving because (after how much we already invested) we werent willing to make a rash call on his contract. Zero loyalty.

Trade the f*cker to Brisbane

This is true. I have never seen 'most determined' ribbons handed out at any AFL club. Hang on, I think the Tigers handed them out to their players this year for an EXTRAORDINARY season.

I'm feeling similar after hearing today's reports.

None of us like to see a player scorn our club the way Freeman has.

I hope we can get to the bottom of this though. If we are partly responsible for his hamstring issues, then I can understand the falling out. I hope the club clarifies this as it's not good PR.

Sadly, our unopened Christmas gift from 2 years ago, will get handed down to that to that pain in the arse relative, that your forced to see, at Christmas gatherings, and you know you've got to give them something, even though you know all your getting is a pair of socks.

Shame the AFL draft doesn't give store credit for unopened gifts;)

I've got this slightly weird sense of calm optimism about Freeman leaving and the draft period as a whole.

There is no disaster. We will get everything that's important we wanted and do ok out of the stuff we didn't want.

I'm really looking forward to trade week and 2016.

Obviously his dad is a physio or sports medicine guru?

Richard tambling?

Lets look at Freeman....on going hamstring concerns. Played 4 VFL games. 0 senior games.
Then lets look at Scharenberg.....surgeries on both feet just after he was drafted. Returned later in the year for the finals few rounds and does an ACL.
Returns to play VFL footy the following year after the midway mark and ended up playing almost half a dozen senior games.

On face value just who ended up putting in more to their rehab to return and get on the park and who is more resilient?
