Suprised Murphy is still favourite. If he had've played all year he'd be almost a certainty though. All dropped off after top 4 but that's pretty right. I reckon Rischitelli is too short and Birchall underrated. Either way the top 4 pencilled in. Best of the rest for the fifth vote.

Rischitelli too short?

He will go top 3 in Brisbanes B&F this year, he has been awesome, if he was playing for Colllingwood he would be around $10.

I probably havent seen enough of him then. Didnt think he was a player really in contention. I've taken notice, hopefully he plays well today.

Not playing today, having another week off, but strong possibility of being on the park next week.

Heath Shaw is the best of good things to take out the NAB Rising Star.
$67 Grant Birchall.....pity there is no each way/top 5 betting!!

Taking aside all teams bias etc.

Murphy appears under the odds.

Shaw is over the odds.

Certianly value in Heath shaw.

Agreed. I reckon he should get top 5, but this is a media award and the media take note of these sort of betting agency odds.
True, if Birch was at Collingwood, a club that gets FTA games regularly he might be more of a chance, as it is, not many people have seen or heard of him.
under the radar.

I dont see why. Sure he was playing good footy but I think people were tricked in to thinking he was playing better footy than the other potential winners. Also the fact that he was the number one pick may have swayed peoples opinions a bit. If you look at the stats though, I think he averaged less disposals than Pearce, Raines and Shaw, and I wouldn't neccesarily say he used the ball any better than those 3. He does deserve a lot of credit for playing so well in his first year at the club, however, seeing as the others were around last year, but im not sure whether this factor can be included in the Rising Star decision.

Birchal only averages 17+ disposals actually, but the main reason he'll probably miss out is the lack of games played.
Fair enough.

But my point still stands about the age gap.

Surely it should be based primarily on age rather then games played.

Don't get me wrong, a player like Raines is obviously a gun in the making, but it's a little unfair comparing a 20 year - with 3 pre-seasons under the belt to the likes of Murphy and Thomas who only have one pre-season under the belt

As we all know, there is a huge difference between an 18 year old and a 20-21 year old.

Anyway, I'm all in on Raines to win it by a street.

I've grown to like Heath Shaw a fair bit but I think that Raines should and will win it. I'd also be very pleased if Murphy won it. As for Melbourne players. I firstly want Jones to get nominated and maybe Dunn but I doubt it. If Bartram could sneak into 4th or 5th place I'd be very pleased and the betting ranks him about there too.

If the rising star judges do their homework, puttig a bet on Foley could earn us a quid.

He has usually played half of each game this year, and in that half had very high numbers of centre clearances.

This week he plays the whole game at the centre and breaks the record with 17 clearances.

That said, there are more exciting players, maybe they'll get the nod.

Shaw, Pearce and Raines all put their hands up this weekend. All three played very well. Personally, I see Raines more than Shaw and Pearce and bias suggests I think he should win it, but Pearce is a dead set gun and Shaw has been so impressive this season. For the record, I rate Birchall very highly.
