Maric is the Newcombe of this year though really....

Whilst he's not had the full season in the VFL as a 20 year old like Newcombe at that point, he's been too good for the u/18 comp in most of his games, been dominant in some of the state trial games and then had 15 touches and 2.2 as a half forward in his only VFL game.

I think West Coast will pick him though, I doubt we pass if available.

I reckon he'd be playing games for us within 3-4 rounds.
If you pick a guy like this 2 weeks at the most in the AFL and that goes for anyone we pick.
No point picking up anyone and let them sit in the VFL they need to playing AFL not VFL

With both Brayden George - Knee Season and Mahony - Shoulder Season are we entitled to 2 MSD picks or 1, seeing as we picked a player Brayden George whom we knew wouldn't play this season at all?
Isn't it only 1 as is it Shiels in for the BG spot?

1 because of Shiel but we may take none until we know how long we have an extended rookie list. I can’t fathom how we entertain anybody that has set 18 month terms.

I still hope we take Teal as he has the most potential to be a long term player.

Come year end happy to rookie the two best state league players available or the two that give us depth in areas we are light on.

“Noah is a forward with good athletic and aerial ability with a penetrating left foot kick.”

“Noah is a 192cm athletic marking forward with a booming left foot kick. Starting in the Sydney Academy as a junior, he left that program and played local football before returning and playing 4 games for GWS Giants VFL at the end of last season. Noah won the Sydney Premier league Best and fairest, only playing 11 games and kicking 35 goals. We are very excited to see what Noah can bring to the Roosters this season. Please welcome Noah to the Roosters.”

Senior Coach, Jacob Surjan

Mav any thoughts on this kid?
My thoughts, we need to keep our ****ing hands off of him. My other North really need him. I haven't been able to get to many SANFL games this year due to timings against my kids games but my lad got to train with the seniors last week so I had a good look. He's got talent and my lad was really impressed with him. Was one of the best movers out there.

I know the club (Roosters) loves him, and he's done everything right since he came in.

Wow watching the MSD live...

This is a little desperate isn't it? I know that every year there's a player or two come from the MSD but really all this trade, draft player movement bullshit is annoying, too American and only useful for when there's actually no footy on.

Next Thursday we'll name our team for the * game. Surely that's more exciting than the MSD.

There's a good reason why there's only one place to watch it unfold.

Race in two for top pick

The race to be the No.1 pick in next week’s mid-season rookie draft appears to be down to two players, recruiters from clubs without one of the top picks believe.

West Coast hold that selection, and the situation would change only if they upset Essendon on Saturday night and make up significant percentage on North Melbourne and/or Hawthorn.

The Eagles’ decision is poised to come down to Gippsland Power forward Ryan Maric, who has long been touted as the pick of the crop after shedding 24 kilograms in two years thanks to his personal-trainer brother’s help, and Claremont forward-ruck Jack Buller.

West Coast interviewed Maric this week, while the Roos, who have the No.2 pick at this stage, have spoken to him as well. He played for, and is training with, the Hawks’ VFL affiliate Box Hill.

The knock on Buller, according to recruiters who spoke to Money Talks, is he is a tad slow, but his marking power has impressed them.

They are among the 11 players who received nominations from multiple clubs to receive AFL medical and psychometric testing. The others are Clay Tucker, Robert Hansen jnr, Brandon Ryan, Ethan Stanley, Flynn Riley, James Trezise, Jaiden Hunter, Mutaz El Nour, Rye Penny and Will Elliott, the son of ex-Test cricketer Matthew.

But being on the medical list has not always been a reliable gauge that a player will be picked in previous mid-season drafts.

Ryan, a 200-centimetre forward who was suspended for three matches last week for an off-the-ball incident, is a polarising figure among talent scouts because of his age (25) and slight frame, but some recruiters think his athleticism would offset any lack of physical size.

Sam Lowson, who was hyped as a potential No.1 pick in the 2019 edition before suffering a serious ankle injury and being overlooked, has re-emerged this year playing for North Melbourne, but no clubs have spoken to him.

Robert Hansen Jnr is the perfect MSD pick. Go after someone with an elite quality (speed) in a position of need. Means we can have 10 weeks to see how he goes before deciding how much capital we put into the small forward into the draft period.

But expecting us to pick the least dynamic option.

I recall a poster earlier mentioned he wants to be close to family in WA. He therefore might be a Tim Kelly kind of pick in that he looks for a trade after one season. On the flipside, if he is just as good we can always ask for a king's ransom like the cats did with Kelly.
