Player #7 - Luke Dahlhaus
Pictured: Luke takes a shot on goal from the corner of Coriooval trapezoid
Luke Dahlhaus
is yet another player that Geelong signed as a mature ager because they are in their preliminary final window.
A premiership player at his former club, Luke grew up on the fringes of Geelong. I mean on the fringe geographically, not socially which would cover things Geelong residents almost do like use contraception, wash their hands after using an indoor toilet or drive an automobile made in the 21st century.
He moved to Geelong to be closer to his... let's be honest. Geelong offered him more money and an extra year so of course he took that deal.
Luke made his name as a tenacious forward who would tackle, harass and bounce back up again quickly after getting knocked down. He was basically the outer-suburban nightclub desperado of the AFL but after winning a flag in 2016 things went sour. Formerly as a pressure forward he'd be running faster than Rudi Giuliani's hair dye when an opponent had the ball, but his defensive pressure dropped right off from 2017 onwards.
After having his motivation questioned publicly, Luke fired back on Instagram because he heard that what the kids do these days:
Pictured: Given Libba and Dahl are in the photo, well done who ever it was that helped them spell two multi-syllable words
Luke found his way to Geelong and was quite motivated in his first season there (2019). In 2020 he wasn't quite as good but was still a best 22 player. 2021 was a different beast altogether and his form slumped like a 17 year old Corio resident learning the results of a pregnancy and/or paternity test.
He still managed to play 21 games in 2021 in a horrible indictment on Geelong's match committee.
He managed 20 disposals only twice this season, and kicked 7 goals for the year. That's one every third game for those of you who aren't good with numbers (noting my last entry had Carlton's accountant subscribe to this thread). Luke didn't kick more than one goal in any game this year. As far as being a threat forward of the ball, Luke was the above ground pool of mature forwards in 2021.
Amazingly, Luke was dropped after Geelong's first final for a poor performance (6 disposals) in proof that Gary Rohan
must have some serious dirt on Chris Scott
.
Luke is 29 so of course he's contracted for next year as Geelong load up one more time for a shot at finals. 17 other clubs realise that Geelong are in such decline they could run for President of the US but personally I enjoy the Cats' mass delusion, like when Geelong call themselves a city or that time Chris Scott
criticised Adelaide Oval:
Pro-tip: If the shape of your home ground resembles a dropped Easter egg you probably shouldn't be throwing stones at a venue that was designed by people who at the very least retained the information from the 'shapes' program on Play School.
Anyway, good luck next season Luke and I'm sure you have plenty of teammates who can give you advice on how to celebrate your 30th birthday next year. Welcome to the Bottom 50 for 2021.

Given the age of Geelong's list I too am concerned that their coach has started having 'falls'.Geelong coach Chris Scottwas at a loss to fathom the “silly” fact that AFL coaches have to wade through fans at Adelaide Oval to get on the ground, after he was allegedly tripped by a crowd member at three-quarter-time on Thursday night.PLAYERCARDSTARTChris Scott
