I heard about this but I don't really follow yank sports.

Saints have got a jr Basketballer on their list. We get to say the we have the tallest player in the AFL....i think he's ...um ..not going to qualify for this list.....ever.

I'm not sure if Channel 7 commentators have ever mentioned it, but Christian Petracca and Luke Jackson were elite junior basketballers.
We've also got Austin Bradtke, who is the son of former Boomer Mark Bradtke.

I hear Phil Smythe is Paul Chapman’s illegitimate father.

About the same amount of times as when they once said Todd Viney beat Boris Becker in a tennis match.

Why is it that all AFL players who were elite junior basketballers are soft?
Is Carlton's entire list made up of elite junior basketballers?

Player #45 - Matt Parker

Matt Parker is a former St Kilda player who was known as "MP-400" in his time at the Saints, which is the second-worst nickname for former St Kilda player in recent memory. The first of course being "Defendant 2196B" but he and his blue hoodie have long since retired.

Matt was delisted at the end of 2020 and found himself back at South Fremantle, where he caught the eye of Richmond scouts who were hoping to fill a list need at the mid-season draft. Mofra's spies manged to hack the Richmond mainframe:

...and download the Richmond mid-season draftee criteria:
  • Can't use chopsticks
  • Not 'under the thumb'
  • Knows the difference between 'less than 5kms' and 'more than 5kms'
  • Does not list their favourite food as 'a 2am kebab outside a strip joint'
  • Believes in the sanctity of marriage, which is traditionally between a coach and a series of progressively younger women
Matt Parker, defying AFL history by being an ex-St Kilda player without a criminal record and/or on a watchlist, was selected in the mid-season draft and played "just well enough" to manage 6 games as a kind of hybrid defensive forward averaging 13 touches (3 clangers), almost 5 tackles and even kicked 3 goals for the year. His first game was on the 16 July 2021 where Richmond somehow beat the Lions, presumably by telling Chris Fagan that it was a final.

Matt is out of contract this year but is expected to be offered a contract as soon as Richmond's Football Department get Brooke's approval for the deal.

Matt "MP-400" Parker, one day we might find out why you gave yourself a nickname that is a also given to a computer component. Welcome to the Bottom 50 for 2021.

This has led to a Bulldog ruck crisis were instead of sending Tim into the ruck they have used a 57 year old Stef Martin until he broke down, then tried a kid so raw (Jordan Sweet) that Ricky Nixon asked for his phone number.

The ‘MP-400 probably refers to the Cray computer in the ‘80’s from the XMP series. It was pretty famous for having the biggest MegaFLOP performance, although somebody probably thought that was a typo.

Already costing them $900k next year and their assistants jumping ship, I'd say it's off to a good start
A fair point, given that everyone was rejecting it, the Collingwood coaching job would be considered inferior to being an assistant at Hawthorn so could be classed as jumping ship
