In Z-Will's defence, he wasn't exactly played in the position he wanted to play under Teague. Think you will see a much better effort from him next season.

No doubt Vossy is a certainty to get the best out of underperforming players. There’s him, Clarkson, Roos and Dimma. He probably just shades them all though.

Player #17 - Zac Williams

Zac Williams is yet another GWS player who chose to continue his career at Carlton.
He was the worst thing NSW sent to Victoria in 2021, including removalists.

A defender during his time at GWS, Carlton chose to give him a 6 year, $800k+ pa contract to play in the midfield because Carlton.
This worked out about as well as Carlton's last 6 or 7 sacked coaches (it's easy to lose count).

Zac Williams just doesn't work hard enough to be a midfielder. Heck, this year he didn't work hard enough to be a defender either. He rocked up to pre-season a little out of shape, leading some to question why Mitch McGovern was chosen as his training bubble buddy.

Carlton's mega investment in Williams this year yielded 14 games for less than 19 disposals on average, less than two tackles per game, and complaints that the post match snack bar was running low on multiple occasions. As a former defender running in the midfield, he doesn't really defend. That's a problem. You'd see more two-way running in the Olympics 100m final than you would on a Zac Williams highlights tape. Zac became easy to play against and plan for. Opposition coaches will just put anyone on him who can run, and watch that player rack up the touches.

In the middle of the year Zac came under media pressure with Jonathan Brown calling him one of the laziest players in the competition. Then other people jumped on board too - he was even called lazy to his face while he was at the supermarket, which was such a shock he almost fell out of the trolley. His Carlton teammates jumped on board too. When someone wrote 'wash me' on his car, he just wrote 'no' underneath it. Rumour has it he didn't get a birthmark until he was 5.

Anyway Carlton have five years to turn him around, and if it's something they know well it's five year plans.

Fun fact: Zac is from Narrandera in NSW, a town of less than 4000 people. This served Zac well early in his career as he was comfortable with GWS' average crowd size.

Zac, godlu... who am I kidding. You wouldn't have read this until the end. Welcome to the Bottom 50 for 2021.

Have high hopes for Jason Johannisen's appearance in the top 10 now after Zac Williams ranking. After reading the following I thought Mofra had got the names mixed up and was actually talking about Johannisen:

A quick check on Johannisen's stats for the season showed that Williams could be classed as a star compared to him:

Look forward to JJ's Bottom 50 award, his first major one since his Robbert Klomp effort in the 16 GF.
