Bushrangers, Kings,
Did we offer him another contract as he is our perfect replacement for Sewell with extra pace.

Can't remember which thread but apparently he signed an extension last year when a few others extended for two years, so I assume he was in that bracket.

Reading between the lines I think he must have had an option of a second year in his contract which has been taken up. The club has been very quite on Mitch all off season...

It has been very quiet on the Mitch front (hopefully deliberately)? Maybe it will be a case of unleash the beast next year with a view to catching a few teams off guard. Would be nice.

Didn't lists need to be lodged the other week?

I am sure if he was being cut, it would have happened when Wang, Boseley and Frank went.

I don't see him as a Sewell replacement, more a replacement for Mitchell.

Shiels is the new Sewell
Boxer is the new Mitch
Jed is the new Hodge
Hill is the new Changa

Well we will find out soon as the second list lodgement is required by tomorrow and any uncontracted players will be delisted. They can nominate for the draft or picked up as delisted free agents on Friiday.

BTW What was the actual point to recruiting that guy ? A 5ft nothing bloke is always going to struggle especially when he didn't speak English and didn't understand instructions and didn't have a lot of pace for a guy of his size. Nothing against Indigenous footballers (Why would any Hawk supporter have anything against them) but looking back over his time with us I just saw it as more of a publicity stunt because of his background ,bit like when Sheedy had that African kid training with the bombers few years back . Don't know how any club can afford to do that these days . He was never going to be a senior player and any spot on a senior list is too valuable to be wasted on a feel-good story and a photo opportunitie . Yeah complete waste of a pick.

.....

That looks about right. Langers will battle with Shiela for that run with role. Hopefully Woodward will battle Boxer for the inside extractor role. Be interesting to see if any of those four understudies can develop past being blue collar.

I hope Langers takes over as our tagger so Shiels can go back to winning plenty of the ball in the midfield. He's more than capable.

It was from the High Performance Testing during the Rio Tinto Aboriginal Lands Challenge Cup that Amos was noticed by AFL scouts. He broke the Adelaide Football Club's 20m Sprint Record, previously held by Patrick Dangerfield. His time of 2.82 seconds narrowly beat Dangerfields time of 2.86 seconds.

That is very quick for a guy without a lot of pace!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We've picked long-shot project players with rookie spots before...

Anyway, this probably won't change your mind but an interesting read nonetheless:

I loved it. We took a risk and you win some and lose some.
The fact that he grew up having to weave around donkey's.....he could've been anything.
Highly doubt it was for publicity....to who...a population of 150 people?

Look the reality is that the rookie list was actually designed for clubs to give a chance for long shots who were not considered good enough or ready to be drafted onto the main list.
A surprising number go onto successful careers but the majority don't. Are they wasted picks?
The reality is that it is guesswork as to who will succeed and who won't.

Spot on Derm, we would be up with best in regard to players coming through the rookie list to go on to be Premiership players.

Osborne, Young, Sewell, Breust, Campbell spring to mind, but I may have missed a few (please don't say Mitchell, he was pick 36 in 2001)... Gibbo was on North's rookie list.

Was never on the senior list, and quicker than Dangerfield over 20 m :p

Back onto Boxer, no news is good news for mine. He's in brown n gold for 2014....
Think we need to try be a little less fixated on pace, sure we need it but for someone like Boxer it's not his thing. Strength in congestion, quick clean hands and a handy dose of mongrel is the skill se the will provide.

Sammy is slow as a week and yet he dominates almost every time he plays. Boxer terrorises VFL midfields and I don't believe his ability to get the contested footy, hit blokes and wreak havoc will be impacted by his ability to run fast on a wing.....

My 2c.

Same could be said about Shem. Never having played regularly at a high level, but still has many of us excited. That's the beauty of our sports rookie lists, it allows clubs to think outside the square when recruiting. It's a good thing mate.
