I had a decent dig through the fixture. Each club plays 4 teams twice and clearly this has a bearing on the difficulty of the schedule for each team. That being said the league should be congratulated for getting the draw out early.

I’ve listed each team below with their four double ups. Dunolly appear to have copped the worst deal with a brutal schedule, while Harcourt and Carisbrook have a far easier time of it.

Natte - Talbot, Giants, Trentham, Dunolly
Harcourt - Creek, Lexton, Maldon, Avoca
Trentham - Natte, Dunolly, Newstead, Giants
Talbot - Natte, Avoca, Maldon, Navarre
Brook - Dunolly, Newstead, Giants, Lexton
Maldon - Talbot, Harcourt, Lexton, Creek
Dunolly - Brook, Natte, Trentham, Newstead
Newstead - Trentham, Brook, Dunolly, Navarre
Navarre - Talbot, Newstead, Lexton, Creek
Lexton - Harcourt, Brook, Maldon, Navarre
Avoca - Talbot, Harcourt, Giants, Creek
Giants - Natte, Trentham, Brook, Avoca
Creek - Avoca, Navarre, Maldon, Harcourt

Based off off season reports and strength of schedule above, here’s my very early 2025 ladder predictions:

1) Harcourt
2) Natte
3) Trentham
4) Dunolly
5) Talbot
6) Carisbrook
7) Newstead
8) Navarre
9) Maldon
10) Lexton
11) Avoca
12) Giants
13) Creek

Lot of guess work here obviously. I feel like Harcourt have got better on paper. Natte are a big unknown but have lost their best mid. Trentham quietly chipping away in the recruiting space. I’d have Dunolly higher if it wasn’t for their draw.
Talbot are a big watch in pre season and the early rounds. Lot of hype, let’s see if it comes to fruition. Brook lack star power for mine, but won’t go backwards. Newstead surely have more luck with injuries and we get a decent look at some of their Kerang recruits.
Maldon have lost Leonard-Shannon which is a huge loss and I expect Navarre to improve this season.
Haven’t heard a lot out of Lexton but have lost a few handy ones. Avoca will be same same. Giants appear in a lot of trouble and will struggle and Creek will be Creek.

Apologies if I’ve made any mistakes above and feel free to throw your two cents in!

I appreciate the time you’ve put into this Master. In my opinion, I think Natte still deserves the mantle as favourites. Their 2024 season was dominant, winning the flag in emphatic style. Harcourt have been busy early on the recruiting front and they’ll be hungry after their run of flags came to an end. Trentham seem to be recruiting blokes who are just topping up their superannuation. I’m interested to see how Talbot manage their point situation, there’ll be some tough calls in match committee. It’s looking like it’ll be daylight between the top 5/6 and the rest.

Some of my ponderings for the season ahead. Will Creek be done after season 2025? What does the future have in store for the Giants? If AFL CV restructure their competitions, what does that mean for MCDFNL?

Newstead picking the eyes out of the Castlemaine reserves with their new recruits. Hopefully one or two can make a legitimate difference in the senior team.

How many of their Kerang recruits from last year are still at the club?

If they're reserve players from Castlemaine, surely it's a stretch that they'd make much difference to Newsteads fortunes.
