something i've noticed about these colour commentators is that they never actually comment on plays, they just make general statements about players; e.g "tom scully is an elite runner" or "jeremy mcgovern is the best intercept marker in the league". it's so repetitive.

I don't mind AFL commentary but the self promotion from ex-players that goes on in the 4000 weekly footy shows makes me sick. Half the audience would barely recognise some of the old players, let alone have any interest in their stories from the 80s and 90s. It's 20 or 30 years ago!!

No idea what qualifies Ben Dixon to still get his face on TV.. mediocre player at best and better player than TV presenter.

The stench of desperation to remain in a media role is horrendous. Ex Tiger Nathan Brown reading out odds is another low point.

Get another career in sales like most ex players and move on mate!

doesn't offer any special insight or draw on his experiences or expertise as a former great of the game. just sticks to basic statements and comments on things we already know. then rewords the same point seconds later, essentially repeating himself. its actually pathetic. guys like duck and riewoldt provide much better insight.

Spot on. I like Ling and Carey for their insight, and Richo's the all round nice guy, perfect for the lighter duties as boundary and player interviews

I’m a long time Geelong supporter and on the telly Ling is one of the worst ever, although BT seems to have dragged down just about everyone into the abyss of in jokes and buffoonery.

Some of these guys are ok the radio when not surrounded by absolute campaigners who think they are as big as the game.

I can’t comment because I love the man, but he shouldn’t do Richmond games. He tries incredibly hard to be unbiased but it just means he sits on the fence.
Funniest thing in the GF last year though was when BT asked him early in the last quarter how he was feeling and his response was just a flat “Nervous”. That day was torture for the poor bloke.
