Matthew Nicks - Where's the pressure?

I feel like Nicks coaches well vs Collingwood. Games have traditionally been tight, but he organized some tactical midfield wins and its usuallg close ecen when we won the flag. So I feel the comment "he's an able tactician" is spot on. The head coach doesn't have to be the spiritual leader, Clarko was the tactics and bad guy at Hawthorns 3peat, Fagan was the warm heart.

The club culture stuff, that's whole of organisation, President, board, admin, coaches and players down to the boot studders.

If you told me after the 2017 GF Adelaide would go into the wilderness, I'd agree it's possible, but only for a year ot two. 7 years, that's a generation of players wasted.

This has been going on longer than Nicks has been there, if the Crows people say it's Roo, he prolly has to go.
Nicks isnt a bad coach.

What has hurt Nicks stint as a crows coach is lack of away wins vs solid sides.

He's da man calling the shots at the Crows. Unfortunately most of his shots are blanks! Needs to go, along with (got a contract for another 2.5 years) Nicks. Nicks pressers always make me nuaseas

And yes, where is the effing pressure on Nicks?
He hasn’t got the cattle for starters as the Crows midfield is one of the worst in the comp.
Plus they cant get rid of Nicks otherwise the whole board has to quit for making a massive mistake in extending his contract.
No way on earth that Ricciutto admits he got he wrong

Their previous 2 months have actually been okay: 4 wins, drew with Brisbane, and a bunch of competitive losses against mostly top teams.

I think the inconsistency is what would be killing Crows fans. Beat up an admittedly weak WCE without half trying, then put in a non-competitive effort a week later.

David King said prior to the season starting that Adelaide would possibly regress this year before bouncing back as many teams going through a rebuild do.
Looks like he was right.

Don’t mind their defence. Somehow found solid pieces without investing heavily really aside from Michallaney.

However, serious question marks over Fogarty & Rachele for me, coinciding with Tex aging.
Fogarty in the same draft has Taylor, TDK, Naughton, Allen who you’d take all comfortably ahead of him, plus probably Balta & McCartin.
He had a “breakout” game last year v Carlton before dropping off, probably the same this year v Brisbane.

Rachele is a scared player, and an individual. Not a good combination. So talented, but does not go for marks in particular that he should go for, and will choose the Rachele option over the team option.

If Rankine stays primarily midfield (which he should), and Thilthorpe doesn’t come on (lots of time though) that’s a huge investment into an underperforming forward line. 4 first rounders for a mid, Thilthorpe who is the unknown, and 2 under performers. Even Cook who is showing nice goalsneak signs is pick 25 & is an impact player, not a 4 quarters player.

Need to fix this up. Butts, Keane, Murray, Borlase, Nankervis, Hinge, Michallaney are a group where they’ll find their core defence from (exact combo still unknown) and it’s cost them only pick 17 for Max & not much else.

Need to seriously fix the midfield structure & get the forwards fulfilling potential.

They just don’t have the cattle. It’s a weak midfield so they’ll be inconsistent until they work that out.
the way they played against us last year was as good as I’ve seen a side play over the last two years so they have got potential. Put an A grade mid into that side and they could improve very quickly.

Common theme in SA, don't trust a coach that is bald.
When did a bald coach last win a premiership?
Recent premiership coaches - Clarkson, Beveridge, Hardwick, Simpson, Goodwin, Scott and McRae.

Question: what do they all share in common, apart from being premiership coaches?
Answer: none of them are bald.

We got a club full of them in coaching, footy department & administration. You might be onto something here. :drunk:
