Looks like the club want to announce an extension before the season according to Tom Morris… probably will be at the season launch.

Absolutely no point to do it at this particular time other than to toot their own horn and get some publicity in the media cycle before the season begins.

I am getting splinters but maybe the club is happy with what they are seeing. May as well take advantage of the media cycle.

Can anyone give me a decent reason we shouldn't just wait until the end of season to sign Nicks? I've previously said bye week would be logical but our inbred neighbours did something like that and it backfired.
To me that makes sense. Could be a good news week.

You just know this isn’t going to end well for Carlton.

Look, i don't think it's the end of the world if we sign him now (can't see the point, but there you go). It's not like contracts can't be broken, and isn't there some clause now in the AFL that the most you'll pay out is 6 months (please correct me if I'm wrong)?
That's been upped to 12 months at a minimum now and also since we didn't borrow AFL funds we're not obligated to include that clause like some other clubs (though you'd think it'd be smart to do it).

If we start the season 0-5, it'll be pretty distracting having everybody screaming at them about why the **** they signed him before the season even got underway.
If that happens, the same idiots in the media that said not signing him would be a distraction will change their narrative to "Adelaide in turmoil, how long has Nicks got?".

The benefits of signing him now just don't match up with they negatives imo. If nicks was at risk of being poached I could understand it - but he isn't....

If we start the season off poorly the clubs going to get smashed to pieces over this decision.

The crazy thing is if we sign Nicks for two more years he'll then equal Neil Craig's tenure and be the equal longest serving coach in our history despite achieving two 5ths of FA.

Surely at some point his free pass has to wear off and the club will come under some scrutiny.

Huh !

The whole footy industry is lauding the Crows list and where we are heading as a Club .....not one media person or analyst is disputing this

So where has the Free Pass been ....and what scrutiny is required

You do realise, we've gone thru a full rebuild .....list and administration ....navigated CoVid, and still will make Finals

No other Club has consistently rebuilt as the Crows have .....ESS, GC, CARL, NORTH, MELB, RICH and so on took years and years ....and most still couldn't do it, even with AFL handouts

But yes, Nicks is **** and there's been way too many free passes LOL

No real strong opinion either way on the upcoming signing, but this feels a weirdly timed melt.

Firstly, as a club we've had our fair share of short term coaches to compare tenure length to.

Secondly we're (maybe) on the other side of a rebuild. Coaches don't often survive rebuilds.

Time will tell.

Very lucky to get an extension, not many coaches last longer than five years without playing finals.

I think regardless of what we announce I think we will move him on if we don't play finals or go really close this year.

All the experts say the easy part is rebuilding and getting on the verge of the top 8, the hard part is the jump into the top 8 so we will find out plenty this year.

Wouldn’t get too excited until we actually make finals which is still a fairly big IF

But you’re right overall , it’s been a pleasantly good rebuild so far given we really bottomed out and went youth route and had to change culture and make key off field changes (as long as we can take next step now)

Hawks , North and now west coast seem to be taking significantly longer
