Moody cleared to train with Dockers

Delisted Brisbane utility Matthew Moody has been given permission to train with Fremantle as the Dockers ramp up their pre-season.

In the rundown of unlisted players given permission to train with other clubs released by the AFL today, Moody and former rookie Chris Smith were the two names next to the Dockers.

No permissions were listed for the Eagles

A product of South Fremantle, Moody cemented a spot in the seniors in 2006 and earned a NAB AFL Rising Star nomination after an excellent night out against the Kangaroos in round 15.

But groin injuries which restricted him to just nine games in the last two years prompted the Lions to advise he would not be offered a position on the playing list for 2009.

The Lions said that decision came as part of the football department's list management and review process in preparation for 2009.

Moody played 34 matches and kicked 14 goals with the club after being drafted as pick No 23 in the 2003 AFL National Draft.

Former Brisbane Lion Matthew Moody is also training with Fremantle and the club is interested in at least rookie-listing him in the hope he can develop into a quality mid-sized forward

Moody was born on 23/09/85, which I thought makes him ineligible (too old) for the rookie list.

Another coup as Perth snap up former Lion
10th January 2009, 9:00 WST

WAFL club Perth has claimed another recruiting scalp with former Brisbane midfielder Matthew Moody signing up.

Moody, the 23rd pick in the 2003 national draft, made his debut in 2005 and played 34 games for the Lions.

Moody’s best season was in 2006 when he notched 19 games and was nominated for the Rising Star Award.

The right-footer was also courted by his former WAFL club, South Fremantle, after being de-listed by Brisbane at the end of 2008.
