Just watched to first period
Thought it was really encouraging
  • can see the revised game plan
  • Johnson + Reef might both get play in same forward line
  • Schultz will add another dimension
  • couple nice signs from Allan
  • nice touches from Ryan
  • Macrae nice
  • Jordy and Nick smashing it in cruise control
  • Beau needed to be cleaner / one touch on occasions- hopefully blown out the cobwebs
I think our game has gone past an unlucky defender but let’s stick to the positives
Thought most Nth goals were more us / luck than them in this period whereas ours were structured plans

Thoughts:

  • Bobby and Lipinski both continued their strong pre season, to me along with Cameron the most likely 'senior' break out players this season.
  • Nick and De Goey looked great when they were on the field
  • Reef jumps back ahead of Kreuger for a round 1 spot for me after this one
  • Fin didnt do enough today, will get another shot next week but I think he will start season in VFL currently
  • Ryan looked the pick of the young players early but got beat 1v1 a lot in the 2nd half
  • Beau had a rough game, burnt the footy like he did in the GF
  • Jiath impressed
  • Schultz was very damaging
  • Allan was quiet, didnt really notice him
  • Frampton had a poor game
  • Quaynor wasnt at his best
  • Carmichael was poor
  • HH showed flashes but disposal let him down
  • Sullivan was solid in his minutes

LDU looked very good, I still think he should be a priority for us when he hits FA

hi SchuPie, what were your observations about our revised gameplan?
thanks

I’ve only watched 2-3 training sessions + this praccy

It’s faster than last year - still playing corridor but it’s go go go on the hands and then fast and precise inside 50. I think with our explosive smalls inside 50 as well as mobile Reef / Johnson, we want to score more heavily
We’ll still have a strong stoppage dna

It really doesn't matter re Fin or Bytel, I'm just providing the stats/info via aflcentral. They both played well when they were on.

The Roo's played well. Their supporters are entitled to be enthusiastic & excited about all their talented youngsters. I'd love a few of them on our side.

Both sides rested players. We know why these games are played. It's not for 4 points.

No wonder with AFL giving North a lot of High Draft Picks

I'll just duck in and say thanks for the game and sharing some good quality training. The scoreboard is pointless at the end of the day, just about ticking over the legs and seeing what gels and what doesn't at a fundamentals level. For you guys, Experimenting with fringe or developing players and tracking their progress. For us, a chance to just apply our new game style . A win win for everyone.

Cheers

That's never a guarantee they'll end up being good players or that it translates into winning lots of games.

North fans have had a shitty few years on field & off field, so I'm not going to begrudge them for getting enjoyment out of watching some of these young players in their team & giving them some hope out of a practice match.

Yes. Didn’t do much.

Yes he did Jen.

Sorry, but IMO that’s a bad take.

His role was to compete and bring it to ground. He did that very well. Often outnumbered.

If we role up with him playing fwd this year, I’m comfortable he does his job.

Strong under the contest and doesn’t get outmarked. That’s his gig.

I’ve scrolled through 50-odd posts and can’t yet find the only information I care about from this game…

… i.e. anyone get injured?

I thought so too. Not going to get on the end of it as much as Johnson or Reef, but might be able to do McStays core role better than either of them.

Nope. Perfect outcome so far.
Apparently WHE was pulled early. But that appears to be very precautionary.

Thanks mate!

That’s the thing most missed last year. Everyone focussed on McStay kicking 2 goals a game.
But I think it was something like 3-4 contests that he was involved in that the oppo marked it. That was what he did that impressed me the most.
He just didn’t get beaten. That caused so many opportunities for our ground crew.
With him out this year, we need someone to replace that role.
Not sure reef or AH are it.

Time will tell. But he was more than serviceable today in my book.
