BRODIE Holland hopes to continue his AFL career at another club after Collingwood announced it would not offer him a new contract for 2009.

Holland, Chris Egan and Sam Iles were all delisted by the Magpies on Tuesday.

Collingwood chief of football Geoff Walsh said Holland had had been an important part of the Magpies for eight years.

“Collingwood wishes to acknowledge Brodie’s eight-year contribution to the club, in which time he played some excellent football and provided a great example of what can be achieved through hard work and dedication,” Walsh said.

The 28-year-old played 36 games and kicked 37 goals for Fremantle from 1998 to 2000, before crossing to the Magpies where he played a further 119 games and kicked 104 goals.

He managed just one game in an injury-riddled 2008.

Egan played 27 games and booted 22 goals in four seasons with the Magpies after being recruited from the Murray Bushrangers with the 10th overall pick in the 2004 draft.

The 21-year-old half forward/wingman played 24 games in his first two seasons before a knee injury restricted him to just one game in 2007.

After playing in the first two matches of the 2008 season, Egan was unable to get back into the side.

21-year-old Iles, also from Tasmania, was selected with the second pick in the 2005 pre-season draft, and made his debut in the black and white against Adelaide in round 18, 2006.

The hard-running midfielder played seven AFL games in 2006 and 2007 but was unable to break into the senior side in 2008.

“Sam and Chris are young players who unfortunately won’t be continuing with the club, however both deserved their chance and worked hard to make it at the elite level,” Walsh said.

The delistings follow the retirements of Scott Burns, Shane Wakelin and Ryan Lonie.

Interestingly

Egan
Holland
Isles

all are consecutive on the Collingwood alphabetic list!

Whats the chances MM didn't have his glasses on and went berko in a tanty thinking about crossing out Brodie!!! .....with orange highlighter....and the others were marked?

Or do they throw a dart... aiming for the D's?

Egan might be worth rookie listing.

Too old?

Egan was drafted in the "won't someone take Bo Nixon" trade that Collingwood and Hawthorn did in '04. Hawthorn used 7th pick they gained on a guy called Jordan Lewis.

To this day I cannot work out why this trade happened. Surely not just to take Nixon off the books?

I think it worked out that Pies got a 3rd round pick or something and used that to get Morrison from West Coast. It was a bit of a weird trade, but back then you had to bundle a player with picks, and Nixon was that player.

if memory serves me correctly, we traded Pick 7 to West Coast for Morrison and Pick 10. May have also exchanged 3rd rounders.

Jordan Lewis went at Pick 7, and we got Egan at Pick 10. not the greatest of moves, but thats assuming we would have taken Lewis with 7 and not Egan!

Egan is talented, just needs to get his head right. Is also a real 'confidence' player. Had some very good games early on - think he will be the only one of those 3 to be looked at by other clubs

Na, he was a spud. I would be surprised if he got another go.
Iles is more likely to get another crack.

Holland, I don't know, maybe someone will take a risk.
Simmlar to Richard Cole;)
